At the booksigning this weekend I was approached by two couples, great Baja people, who bought books (great) and asked me a ton of questions about
Baja. They have had a place in BOLA for eleven years. They asked me the above question and I was taken aback because I have had so many.
My response was---LuAnn and I were in La Salina during the week and there was nooo one in camp. I suggested skinny dipping and was met with a frosty
r esponse. Then I suggested 'strip poker' and she smiled and said--sure! So I took off this and that and something else--all the while my bride was
laughing--finally well you know one of those precious moments.

when ever I am in the mountains camping and hiking. thank goodness most of the people that visit Baja think it is all about the beaches and don't
realize where the real beauty of Baja is.

I dont have a precious moment but I do have a precious trip, it was this past Feb. to G.N. for whale watching. I have been traveling to Baja since the
early 80's but this was the first time with my wife and two sons. On previous trips when my kids were infants I think I stopped and called home three
times before crossing over, I missed them alot. This last trip with my family I think I had the best time I ever had as I wasnt torn between staying
in Baja or getting home as soon as I could because I missed them. Seeing the joy on their faces while down there was priceless.

When we moved into the beach house @ Bahia Santa Maria. Knowing from that first morning as we watched the sun rise over the Sea of Cortez from our bed
and that we would see that for the rest of our lives. Priceless..... Rob

I am glad you asked that question.
I would often ask myself what are the climax images I have of baja. At other times I would ask myself when is it that I get that baja feeling, the
feeling that I have arrived in Baja. In the early years it used to be on the highway just after leaving Ensenada. But that has changed.
Now a climax moment comes just after that downgrade by Santa Rosalia when you first see the Sea of Cortez. The water is always absolutely flat and
oily. The blue just seems to stretch endlessly and there is a feeling of peace and adventure at the same time. You almost feel your muscles just start
to relax at the sight. You have arrived. A feeling of warmth and optimism of things to come.
The other area of spectacular beauty is, of course, Conception Bay. Pompano, is right to be worried about development in that area. It's the crown
jewel of Baja and it's a miracle that it hasn't been developed. Those islands and torquoise beaches look like the French Riviera. I wouldn't be
surprised if casinos are in store for it in the long term future. Too bad, really.
