Hola Amigos y Nomads,
Just a short note and some photos taken Saturday and Sunday (4-30, 5-1) of our weekend in Guadalupe Canyon Hot Springs...
Crossed into Mexico Friday evening and went straight to CASA VIEJA for dinner... was so very, very good. We got a menu, and I will try and post it in
the Restaurant forum later...
Bought some cerveza and then headed east. Got to the canyon around midnight. Tecate to Guadalupe Canyon takes me 2.5 hrs., we used the dry lake route.
Hotschott (Steve) and his amigo Keith waited up for us and helped us into our camp 'LA JOLLA B' in Arturo's Campo #1 http://www.guadalupe-canyon.com
After the camp was set up, we enjoyed a dip in the hot tub... and watched the moon rise... was awesome!
Saturday, I showed Elizabeth the canyon's three independant campos and the source hot spring for them all... then another dip... then a nap, and
another dip... Elizabeth has Baja Fever and really likes this special place!
Saturday evening we have dinner with Hotscott, wife Val, and Keith... some awesome pollo asada! Campfire, more hot tubbing too, and some good sleep
(although the wind was blowing since sundown).
Sunday, breakfast with Hotschott, Val, and Keith... some more photos, more hot tubbing, then pack up the Toyota for the trip home...
We stop for gas in La Rumorosa and tortas in Tecate...
Toll boths were $4.25 in El Hongo and $1.25 in La Rumorosa.
Border wait was 50 minutes starting at 5pm... through the new Tecate U.S. gate... The access is now further east, just east of the traffic circle, and
is very well signed. I have the GPS for it.
Here is a photo looking down the canyon from above the 3 campos... Laguna Salada is in the distance...

Here is a look at our palapa and hot tub, 'La Jolla B'... It was $75 for 2 nights, reserved through Canyonman Rob, via the web site. The camp was
totally clean, raked, and freshly filled tub waiting for us!

Another angle on our camp spot... Today (Sunday), a rattle snake was laying next to the base of the tub in some water (where the garden hose goes up
to the tub, in this picture)... I couldn't get to my camera before he took off... bummer!

From Hotschott's camp (La Paloma), I hopped some boulders to take a photo of La Jolla A... as nobody was there. Note the Palo Verde trees all in
bloom! I have a LOT more photos to show you, and will make a web page to show them all... stay tuned!
By the way, each of the camp sites in Arturo's camp are private and very, very nice... The other camps in the canyon (Angel's Campo 3, and the other
brothers above Angel's) do not have any or very little privacy, and tend to be more noisey.

50 minutes at the border in Tecate.....sounds like a long wait or is that about normal for a Sunday 5 PM?.....
did you play that snake some "music" and make it go away?....

I consider a wait of about an hour normal, anytime. That way if it is shorter, I am pleased. Hotschott tries to get back by noon to avoid the wait...
We left the canyon at 2 pm, stopped for gas and asada tortas which added 30 min. to the trip back, why it was 5pm instead of 4:30.

$75 for two nights? Is that for the campsite regardless of how many cars/people? What are the prices for the other campos? I would not pay $75 for
two nights.

Yes, that $75/ 2 nights is about the cheapest 'nice' camp site. Hotschott paid $120 for 2 nights at La Paloma, I believe. The price is for the camp
site up to the max. number of vehicles listed in the web site. You have to understand, this is really, really nice... 24 hr. hot thermal water
running, big palapa, atmosphere, quiet, romantic... nature (we had a rattlesnake visit). There is absolutely NO place just like this anywhere... it
will be a memory maker. You may get a place cheaper by making the long drive and negotiating with Arturo, should there be a cancellation or vacancy.
The reservation makes it nice, no guessing... It is a vacation afterall... and cheaper and better than Cabo or Vegas!
