trip update

Time and distance gives perspective no matter where you are. 'I'm here and want to be there' or the other way 'round. Returning to Boulder, as it
turns out, was necessary. Even if my original reason had nothing to do with what I found waiting for me ?here.?
Returning home early I found my system for bill payments had failed and that my Dad was in need of help beyond what he could do for himself. If I had
continued on, these problems would have been lost to me, but still real none-the-less, and I would have eventually returned to a big mess.
Since returning home I?ve been able to correct my system of bill payments and work on helping out the family. In doing so I have had time to reflect
on my Baja kayaking dream and know that I need to return (and that there was a reason to come back).
It?s clear that a circumnavigation of the Sea, for me, is too big of a bite - at least to try all at once and all alone. When I return to continue
paddling in late June it will be to go as far as I feel comfortable and happily willing. Doing this will allow me to continue with photography and
videography as well as the paddling adventure itself.
Today I spent resorting my gear ? I?ve learned what I need and what I don?t need to bring along. I also spent several hours repairing the sea kayak
which was damaged in transit and had significant wear damage on the bottom from being dragged on the rocky shores. While I may not be a fiber glassing
expert it was quite satisfying working on the kayak and getting her prepared for more miles in the Sea of Cortez.
In the 220 miles (out and back) I?ve paddled I learned a ton about the Sea, myself, and the human perspective and I hope to continue that learning
curve. And to be able to share these experiences. Look for these on my web site soon.

P.S. The photo is of Larry, the kayaker who's camp I found, passing by Alfonsina's with Punta Final in the background. We met on the way to
Calamajue. He seemed well prepared for his venture - completely self-supported. No food or water from anyone or anywhere, just what he can gather
himself (he has a desalinator and speargun). If I hear more from his wife I'll keep everyone informed.
