Lost

One of my first trips to Mission San Luis Gonzaga, I spent a few days with the dudes exploring and then planned to go to San Evaristo from there.
So I headed east. I was well stocked for the dogs and me and hadn't heard of any information about the road other than what the locals said. But they have no need to go that way so I was a little skeptical of their ideas.
After many conflicting directions in San Luis, I headed off feeling anything but sure. But, there aren't that many roads in that area so should be no problem.
Many many stops for pictures, dogs, donations, and talking to rancheros, le?eros, and whomever I happened to encounter out in these wilds. Great trip but where's San Evaristo?
So after driving for a number of hours, I am really getting curious as I have followed the most recent directions and still don't see any signs of getting into what should be indicative of the area above San Evaristo.
And now, I am on a long, straight, well used road and haven't seen any signs of life for a few hours. I must be headed the right direction.
I am driving along on this long straight road, cactus on both sides and see what looks like a blur cross the road up ahead about 3 to 5 miles.:?::?: WTF?? I had no idea but, let's go see.
I get closer and closer and nothing. Then, a semi truck goes flying across the road I am on about a mile ahead.
Now this wouldn't be considered a big deal. Unless you thought you were going to San Evaristo from San Luis Gonzaga. And spent the last 6 or so hours lost in the Sierra de la Gigantas. And spent your childhood watching Twilight Zone!
Although a little rattled, I realized that I just made a very nice loop trip from San Luis to El Coyote, by way of San Basilio, Iritu and almost as far east as San Pedro de la Presa.
Well, not being one to give up, I did for that approach. After a few weeks dealing with "stuff", I took the road from San Evaristo going the other way and actually made it through without getting lost.
That's because I bought a GPS as soon as I got back!:light:

Getting lost is half the fun sometimes. You meet interesting people and learn more about dirt roads than you really wanted to. Having a GPS is nice but sometimes you get out the trusty Alamanac and cant quite figure out the exact lat and long and just go for it. What the heck...there is always manana, si senor!

Of course there is always the chance that you will run across a street sign that will help you.
