Freshwater fishing

Jose and I headed east from San Luis Gonzaga to go visit some cousins of his who live by a lake. We stopped by their ranch and visited with his lovely cousins for a while. They had a fresh water langostino dried that was 16" long from the lake. Damn, this oughtta be good I thought.
I wasn't really prepared for fishing in agau dulce but had a few lures and my daughters pole. I also threw in some cheese for bait and munching.
So, we hike to the lake and I see dead fish along the shore in spots. This was just after the rainy season so I imagine they were killed in the floods that had occured. Nasty!
After a number of casts with the lures and nothing, I switched to the cheese. Jalape?o cheese to be exact.
Jose is a very patient person but finally he informs me that Mexican fish like Mexican bait, not cheese or hokey lures and I'm not going to catch anything with my bait.
I let Jose know that it wasn't just cheese but Jalape?o cheese with Mexican fish in mind. He didn't buy it. So after a brief discussion as to how these mountain pescadores manage to keep their tamales and tacos attached to the hooks (Mexican fish). I gave in and listened to his chuckling something about gringo fishermen and cheese on the way back to the van.

Unfortunately, it started raining along the way back to San Luis and we slid off the road. A group of le?eros came by and had shovels and stuff to help get us out. But, I was majorly high centered on a boulder.
Out comes the hi lift, jacked up the whole rear end and pushed her sideways back on to the road. Didn't catch any fish but made a whole bunch of converts for HiLift jacks!
