El Rosario and more, 7-05 (Part 2, desert tour)

The day was overcast with an occaisional sprinkle of rain and a distant roar of thunder. The temperature was very comfortable so that was nice. Without a blue sky, the photos were not as striking however.

To see our route, open your Baja Almanac to map 15...
The cardonal is just to the right of the lable 'Mesa el Cardonal' next to the center binding of the book 'U-2'.

We then drove east and climbed the steep grade 'La Cuesta la Vibora' which is labled on the map.

Here is a photo looking down the cuesta... You may see Hook's camper way down there... doing a great job climbing up. Neal Johns was riding with his friends and they elected to not continue on from El Cardonal.

The La Vibora road travels along the top of a ridge. This photo is looking down into the canyon to the north... In the Almanac (W-2), this is the north-south bend in Arroyo Los Martires, the principle tributary of Arroyo El Rosario. We could see water in it from here...
