Underwater Baja

So much of what we talk about regarding Baja occurs on land or over water. I'm wondering: What are your favorite underwater Baja experiences?

Mine: Encountering a black sea turtle, Chelonia mydas agassizi, in Bahia de los Angeles. They're such shy animals. This one didn't stick around long... :o

I've been diving for almost 40 years and my most memorable experience in Baja was snorkelling in 10 feet of water, about 30 feet off the beach, just south of Cabo Pulmo.
After a few strokes around, a couple of surface dives and a quick check of the conditions, I floated my then three year old daughter out on her boogie board. With her mask and snorkel, she didn't want to take her face out of the water !

"Dad, there's fish swimming down there !"
"Dad, it's a star fish !"
"Dad, I can see the bottom !"
"Dad, did you see that huge fish ?"
"Dad, ............

My favorite underwater experience I'm afraid no longer exists - as such, the memory fonder: snorkeling in about a foot of warm water at the ends of Conception Bay, and seeing a world of sealife - nudibranchs (sp?), Spanish Dancers, many very colorful fish and plant life.

It's hard to say...but some dives stand out over others...last year, on my birthday, I looked up and the surface was covered with rays. Same trip, another day, we saw bat rays mating. Later in the year, with unbelievable visibility, I was excited to see some of the same places I had been before that seemed so small in area become so large. I figure next month there'll be another "best".

First Trip 1968 to the coral Reef at Cabo Pumo--Snorking with a small camera in a waterproof Plastic Box. Took pictures of the Reef and got a shot of a partially Transparent Fish about a Foot Long.

1976 Loreto- Hooked a large Yellow which took my lure to the bottom {35ft} hooked it on a rock and left it there. I dove to get the Lure loose and as I came up a medium size Shark came up along side looked, followed me up, never took a Bite!!

1972 North of Loreto with Alvaro Murillo diving under a very large rock for Lobster{At least 150 attached to the underside of the rock} proceeded to take a few back to the Panga, on the second trip, went around the Corner of the Rock and had a very large Ell open his mouth aganist the Glass of my Mask. I left in a Grand Hurry.!

1977 Eastside of Carmen diving with a Mask came onto about 20 very large Rock clams attached to several Rocks. The largest I have ever seen{Sides were larger than both hands Spread}!!!
