So if you take a car (say to Cabo) on an FMT you can leave it there 180 days then you must return it to the US for 6 Mos before you can bring it back?
How do they enforce this?

Who told you that?
An FM-T is for tourists/ vacationers, NOT Mexican property leasers/owners or part time residents,,, who leave their property (cars) in Mexico.
