Papercrete

Shoot man, I think that you ought to take out a subscription to "Mother Earth News" and figure out a way to build stuff with "recycled" plastic bags. Just think, we could absolutely change the whole socioeconomic structure of Baja if we could just put up a few structures, and there is an unlimited supply of raw materials.

Thanks Richard, that is some very interesting reading indeed. Has a lot of possible applications for sculpture also.......... hummmmmmmmm

Very interesting. A possible recycling use for the most abundant source of used paper in Baja...the boxes in the corners of the excusados?

So is Papercrete more durable than Haybalecrete?

Let us debate

The entire site stressed cheap. So add 15/20%
As I read it it seems well suited for 80% of Baja and you can water proof it.
What other short fall do you see??
I think it could be easily taught as a trade. We have solved labor.
Except for Portland cement (I see truck loads of that everyday) the rest occur naturally. May have to start recycle programs. Good for everyone!
I'm just rambling so let me know what you think?
I am going to research this for at least my bodaga.
I like new challenges:lol::lol::lol:

Al

Get a paper shredder and mix it 3 to 1 and pour. No test samples allowed.

papercrete

Those places I'm familiar with in BCS have a type of subterranian termite that goes through anything like paper very quickly. I have seen whole packages of 36 rolls of TP reduced to a crumbly mess in a few weeks. Cardboard boxes collapse almost overnight. Books are truly masticated, and at a speed that would embarrass Evelin Wood.

Unless the 'crete is treated with something anti-termite, I would expect structures produced using it to be short lived.
