This is the first time I have had to post since returning on the 9th. 12 of us flew out of San Diego on the 2nd to Loreto and met a couple of friends
who have a house on shell beach. WOW it was hot. Took almost a 12 pack to get to Punta Chivato. I wasn't driving. Actually it was Shell Beach. Partied
with friends for a while the tried to get some sleep. It was HOT! Cooled down to the lower 90's that night. Got up early and drove to Mulege to go
fishing. We had 2 Pangas. Got out about 15 miles and the boat I was on started having engine trouble so we headed back very slowly while the other
boat continued out. We didn't catch anything but had a great boat ride. Outstanding sunrise. Back at the dock the pangero didn't want to charge us but
we gave him some money anyway. The other boat hooked 2 and landed 1 sail fish. No dorado anywhere. While waiting for the other boat to return we sat
in the pool at the Serinadad and drank beer. That night we had a birthday party for a friend. Great food and drink. It was hot. Saturday we hung
around and played on the beach. The water was great except a couple of people got stung by invisible jelly fish. Nothing to serious. Went to the
Serinadad pig feed that night. Must have been 20 planes there. Ate to much. Another hot night. Sunday morning 10 people left to fly home. My wife and
I stayed with our friends. We went out fishing again latter that morning. No fish but tons of dolphins, some fin back whales lounging on the surface,
a couple of turtles, and mantas jumping out of the water. Another great boat ride. A little cooler that night. Monday we heard about the 2 hurricanes
off of Cabo. We spent the day in Santa Rosalia looking around an getting groceries. It was still hot but that night it rained a little bit. Tuesday
the water was a little rough outside so we just hung around again. It had cooled down quite a bit. Took a boat ride along the shore looking for
hurricane damage. Couldnt see much except a bunch of stairs down to the beach were damaged. I'm sure there is more damage than what we saw but there
didn't seem to be any structure damage. More of those pesky noseeum jelly fish. They got me pretty good this time. Never did see them. Oh well it just
itched a bit but did welt up. Used Calamine to ease the itching. Wednesday went fishing again. Went out 20 miles and only saw 3 sail fish with 1 quick
hit. My fishing luck has not been good. Got more rain that night. Thursday morning it was in the low 70's. Our friends gave us a ride to Loreto and we
flew back to San Diego. There were a couple of vados where one lane of the road got washed out and some rough spots. Nothing to worry about. Just go
slow and wait your turn if there is other traffic.

What kind of shape is the hotel and restaurant in these days?
I remember flying in there in my C-210 in about 1979 or 1980.. The place was totally hammered. Buildings mostly intact but all the plumbing was
ripped out, windows and doors missing, really a sad sight. We took a gentleman there who was somewhat interested in buying and renovating. Never
could get a deal put together.
Then we swung in there in 1991 en route to the eclipse and it was going strong. Really in fairly good shape, not a 5 star but 2+ or so.
Just curious if it has gone up or down since 1991.

(sure wish we had bought it when it was trashed, that would have been a good one!)
Your locations shows "26 miles North of the Real Baja"
You must live in Camalu because the real Baja starts just South of the San Quintin Parador....

Ive been to this hotel in 1995. I thought is was a nice place, but I thought it was expensive at 50$ per night. And I thought the beach wasn't very
good because it had a whole bunch of big boulders. I like the free camping beach right next door (well not right next door but pretty close) much
better. Are the hotel owners still allowing free camping there? It is a big long beach. I can't believe that the owners could control the whole thing.

hey Joelt, i remember talking to you or someone from your group looking to get a private plane(s) ride for the birthday bash someone was having at
shell beach. All i could think of was i hope they have a place with cold AC for night sleeping at least.
sounds like you made the best of it though, I just won't do the sea of cortez in summer unless its got air. too frickin hot - i can only drink about a
case a day, then what are ya gonna do to keep stayin cool through the afternoon!!

Capt. Mike Wish I had met you at the Serinadad. I was wondering if you were there. I enjoy reading your posts. I may take you up on a ride down
sometime. Sounds like the way to go but no more time off till at least April when we are driving down again around Easter. Maybe I'll see you at the
pig roast then. Stay high. Also the hotel at Punta Chivato is open. I didn't go there because I don't think they like nonhotel guests around. We
went by in a boat and it looks like they are working on the roof on half the hotel. the roof looks almost the same as it did last April with a lot of
tiles missing. Didn't look like anyone was staying there but did see a couple of people that looked like they were working. I hear it is for sale.
Someone could do good things with it.
