Bar Mareno en Percebu

The Restaurant / Bar complex has been extensively remodeled and added to in the last year. The complex is completely changed from what it was before. There is still at this time additional work going on.

The showers and restrooms have also been worked on. They are clean and there is "supposed" to be hot water. I have had no reason to use them.

Watch out for the large cactus just outside the mens bathroom.

This pic was taken early in the summer before they finished painting the Palapa base, etc.

I'll go down and take a current pic in the a.m.

ArvadaGeorge - 10-23-2005 at 03:18 PM

Do you know how many camping spots are there? How much are they? Is there hot water? Are the bathrooms clean?

Spyderman - 10-23-2005 at 04:28 PM

Where exactly is Laguna Percebo?

ArvadaGeorge - 10-23-2005 at 04:31 PM

25 miles south of San Felipe

bajaden - 10-23-2005 at 11:38 PM

Its right before the road turns to crap. Last time I camped, there wern't any designated camp sites. Big beach, lots of room. Been a while though. From the pictures, the place sure has changed.

Hours of Operation, etc

MrBillM - 10-24-2005 at 10:58 AM

The hours that the Restaurant and Bar remain open are somewhat flexible based on the amount of business. The Restaurant usually opens in the a.m. between 8 and 9 and remains open until 4 or 5, later if there are customers. The Bar is open into the evening, again, if there are customers. I've seen it open at 10 p.m. when business justified.

There are approx six designated campsites with palapas Northeast of the bar and another group South of the bar. In addition, there is plenty of beach space to camp. The current posted daily rate is $10.00. The showers / toilets are kept clean.

Good pavement all the way to the Percebu turnoff and beyond for about 9 miles, going to caca just before Campo El Vergel. The turnoff for Percebu has a huge billboard on the Southeast corner.

The good pavement has been greatly extended past the previous point (Nuevo Mazatlan, K-32)... I would guess it has reached Coloradito by now... It was way past El Vergel on my last trip by there in July. Pavement is going to Gonzaga and Mex. 1 even though we don't ever want to see that happen!

Out of Date

MrBillM - 10-24-2005 at 04:59 PM

I haven't been down past Bahia Santa Maria since last January so it's obvious I'm not up to date on the highway.

David K - 10-24-2005 at 06:06 PM

I figured as much Bill, so I hope you didn't mind my update... Even my trip through Gonzaga in late July could be outdated, as fast as they were woring on the new pavement! You know 3 months = 3 miles... or is that kilometers??? Seriously, they were working hard...

Pavement ?

MrBillM - 10-25-2005 at 09:06 AM

A close friend of mine just stopped by here Sunday on his way North from his home in Gonzaga. He didn't mention the highway and I neglected to ask. I'll drop him an e-mail today and ask about the current status of the paving.

This map is 17 years old, but it shows the area around Laguna Percebu (Now 'Rancho Percebu' on the sign)...

This satellite image shows the coast north and south from the long narrow Percebu lagoon (the long narrow beach that creates the lagoon is 'Shell Island'... The village of 'Rancho Percebu' is at the mouth of the lagoon on the left.
