just for fun ,what do you all think is the best overall offroad motor bike for Baja?

There are a lot of variables .If you are a experienced rider, with strength, a XR650
Or DRZ400 are good choices
Lots of Baja races have been won on XR?s.
The DRZ?s electric starter is hard to beat.
Big gas tanks can be bought for both.
Both are a little heavy but the motors are beefy for going long distances with out much service

you will get 100 different answers to that question and they will all be right. it depends on you and what type of riding you are going to do . the reason they make so many different bikes is because there are so many different people.

for me and the way I ride I like a smaller lighter bike that is moor maneuverable Like a 250 to 350 with a big gas tank. I don't race but I like to go where there are no trails

The best bike for Baja is a well preped bike.
Other than than that 100 mile fuel range
My .02 worth.

George and Bruce are right. It all depends on what your riding style is and your size and how far you would go on trips etc. XRs are the most popular bikes for off road but that doesn't mean the others are any less capable. Your best to stay with a 4 stroke because of better gas milage and less potential problems. As I got older I went to the smaller bikes. I have an XR200 and two XR250s. The older 250 I had the suspense lowered so my short frame can touch the ground easier. I'll probably have the new 250 done too. Electric start is a consideration, but the smaller bikes are easier to start than the big one. The Honda CRF230 is an electric start but doesn't have a kick starter, so you may not get it started in the middle of nowhere and the battery is dead. Some bikes have both starting systems. If you do a lot of riding you may wish to stick with the 21 inch front and 18 inch rear tires which are the most popular for off road. Many dedicated off roaders add a steering stabilizer like Scotts and a desert tank. Just some things to consider.

Bultaco.....250

The Bultaco works best in the shop with a beer in hand.
After 3 beers it's the best bike ever made
