Has anybody ever been snorkeling in BOLA?
Just wondering if you need a boat, or if there is anywhere you can go off the shore.

While a boat would get you to the islands... without one, go to La Gringa and the gravel beach or the one across from Smith Island. La Gringa is the
north end of Bahia de los Angeles (see signs for Daggett's and Raquel's Motel and continue past those places).
Beyond La Gringa

There is a rocky and interesting coastline north of La Gringa that is fun for snorkeling. Take the road to the left just before you enter La Gringa
from Bahia de Los Angeles. It winds a mile or so west. You'll spot two or three roads branching off north. If you take the second it will lead you
across a set of rolling hills and then turn east and head back for the coast. There are a number of small roads and any of them should lead to
interesting craggy shores and small coves where you can don your gear and get out into the water. The coast remains rocky and interesting for
snorkeling for quite a way in that area and you can do it without a boat.

Just got back from Camp Gecko on 10/24. Spent 5 days there. Water temp. just right, but numerous small jellyfish and floating stinging parts were very
annoying. Ran into these about 20 yards off the launch ramp at Gecko, and at La Gringa. Saw lots of pretty fish, so it was worth the discomfort.
During our stay (10/19-10/23), we noticed several vacancies. Looking forward to a return trip. ALSO-friend with us did not have a passport, only a
birth certificate which they weren't happy about at the TJ crossing. We played the smiling ignoramuses, and were kindly allowed a visa. Unknown to us,
passports are now mandatory for going beyond the border areas in Mexico.

A postscript- mosquitoes were pretty bad early AM and PM. Biggest sighting was a very nice tarantula on our front doorstep one evening. Great
entertainment-the neighbors came to see.

Selke, you say the mosquitoes were bad, it begs the question , was there any evidence of Dengue? Doc Abraham advised 10days ago that there had been
none so far. was that true during your visit? We expect to be there in 8 or 9 days so I am interested. Thanks for any advice.

We asked Dr. Abe about Dengue fever-he told us it has been diagnosed in Santa Rosalia, but no problem in BOLA. Hopefully BOLA is too isolated. An
infected person would have to arrive at BOLA, and the mosquitoes there will have to spread it around.
