This happened last year, not a great whale tale but turned out ok as there were no injuries.

About 20 years ago I made my usual summer trip to my parents vacation home in Punta Banda to stay for a month or longer. Across the street from them
was a retired couple, Joe and Marge. Joe was in his eighties and had a small boat that he would launch at campo La Jolla and fish south of Punta
Banda. He did'nt like to go out by himself so when he saw that I was across the street he came over and asked if I would like to go out with him the
next day, just as we always have done for many years. I enjoyed his company alot. His stories of playing for Ohio State Football Team in the 20ies
made the time pass by fast. As we were fishing one morning south of Punta Banda with the water like glass and not a hint of wind I saw a whale breech
right next to our boat, maybe 5 feet and look me directly in the eye. A stare I will never forget---I can see it today as clear as 20 years ago. I put
down my pole and and started to bang on the bottom of Joes boat. Well Joe did'nt see the hugh creature and asked why I was banging on the side of his
boat. I told him what I just saw and I wanted to make sure that other whales did not turn us over. He started to laugh soo hard thinking I was crazy
and I started to laugh but kept on banging. Just then another whale breeched right next to Ole Joe and the laughter stopped, and Joe started to bang
on the bottom of the boat with quite a look of concern. That's when I lost it and laughed soo hard I thought I would hurl. The look on the old mans
face was somthing I will never forget. I wont forget the eye of that whale either or tail as it slid down under the water. It scared the HELL out of
Old Joe, but he told a different story when we got back......

Yep, I thought I would check in again. It is a new year after all. Having fun catching up on everything. Sure sorry to learn of J.R and Dik Lang
though.
Hopefully my ol body will stay well enough for BHL and I to take a trip down there soon, maybe meet up with some old amigos.

Here's one, took place somewhere Pacific Ocean
off No. Baja, a sailboat in the 30' ish length,
was approached by a whale, probably
a Humpback ,the kind with the 'pectrel'
(spelling) fins, the whale became interested
in the hull of the boat, the people on board
thaught this humorus, but after more than 12 hrs.,
during which time the whale had his fins wrapped
around the boat, apparently attempting to
mate with the bottom of the hull
