Source for HONDA generators...?

surfer jim - 3-8-2006 at 08:23 AM

Read KERI'S generators thread and want to know where to buy a HONDA 1000 and what they cost....

bajalou - 3-8-2006 at 08:38 AM

A supplier that ships all over the country (sometimes saving sales tax) and usually has some of the best prices in the country.

www.mayberrys.com/honda/generator/html/accessories.htm

Get the EU type much quieter and fuel efficent.

(I have the EU2000i which is great)

i got mine at marberry's. cheap!! and shipping included.!!

Neal Johns - 3-8-2006 at 02:29 PM

Buy-It-Now New HONDA EU1000i generator on Ebay for $660 +$65 shipping.

For a couple hundred more......

Hook - 3-8-2006 at 05:40 PM

I'd get the EU-2000i, Jim.

If you ever want to run a conventional coffeemaker, small microwave, electric heater, etc., the 1000 wont cut it. Believe it's about 25 lbs heavier, though. My 2000 even runs my rooftop AC in my Lance. I have the smallest rooftop AC unit made. Nothing else can be on, of course.

Also, elevation and high ambient temperatures will rob a generator of output. Nice to have some headroom.

EDIT: actually it's only about 18 lbs. heavier.

I fully agree with Hook on the 2000

surfer jim - 3-8-2006 at 08:19 PM

I was thinking about the 2000 also...but the weight/size difference is a lot for portable use...just got a SIX-PACK pop up camper and was thinking of the smaller gen for remote use....and it would have to be lifted in and out and stored somewhere.....will look at both in person and see/feel them before I decide....

JZ - 3-8-2006 at 08:36 PM

Bought mine at Mayberry's. EU2000i.

How is it.....

Hook - 3-8-2006 at 08:45 PM

.....my original post's time was correct and yet it shows my edit to have occured TOMORROW.:wow:

I imagine that pop-up doesnt have AC.

And, frankly, I never use an electric heater or a coffeemaker. We use the 12v propane heater in the rig and a French press.

So, you probably could get away with the 1000.

One other thing.......dont ever expect to charge a discharged house or car battery with the 8A-12volt charging circuit they have on these generators. Really sloooooooow. Better to bring a 20+ amp charger.

In fact, Xantrex makes a really good, portable one that stores all it's cables inside it's housing. 3 stage charging, user selectable bulk rate (40/20/2amp), internal fan, even a setting that "boils" sulfation off the plates. Solidly built plastic housing. Only fault is that the LED window is really hard to read in sunlight.

Can be found for well under 100.00. Very compact, very light weight.

jim if you buy the 1000 and decide its not enough you could buy another and hook them together for 2000 watts of power. i have the eu 3000 and love it. good luck:coolup:

Honda EX5500 choice...

Pompano - 3-9-2006 at 10:28 AM

I posted this on another generator thread, but will add this one to the soup. While the 5500 may be overkill for what you have in mind, I have had great success with this powerful and quiet Honda and the seller is honest and reliable. Good buys at Acme Tool (nationwide) for me. I bought $300 cheaper here than best competitor.

JZ - 3-9-2006 at 11:15 AM

That thing is a monster!

I have two EU2000i's and can run them in parallel.

Diver - 3-9-2006 at 11:36 AM

Sounds like a case of "generator-envy" !

Pompano , where did you get the price list and free shipping and sales tax info /?

Thanks

lero

surfer jim - 3-9-2006 at 12:05 PM

I see what you mean...not too much more for the 2000 over the 1000....

Pompano - 3-9-2006 at 12:34 PM

lero...just seach that site I gave. Dial the 800 number (1-800-916-9473) and ask away. They seem to be very competitive. Not ALL states are shipping or sales tax free, though....best ask first. Compare first...and I hope you have good luck with your choice...Pompano

turtleandtoad - 3-9-2006 at 02:13 PM

I didn't know that the 1000's had paralleling capability?

Pompano - 3-9-2006 at 04:30 PM

turtleandtoad....you can indeed parallel the 1000's, but why do so? (Unless you have some specific reason, of course.)

Two 1000's would cost you $1260 plus $50 for the connecting cable = $1310

One 2000 watt is only $870.

For the difference, you could buy yourself another 120 watt solar panel.:D

awfulart - 3-12-2006 at 07:19 PM

Camping World sells the Honda. Don't know how competitive they are but you might check. They have stores all over.

I bought an eu2000 from Wise Sales...

Mexray - 3-12-2006 at 08:59 PM

...just about one year ago. They used to have the prices posted on their web site, but I guess took them down due to Honda's unified dealer pricing policy, or some such rot!

Anyway, I called them to place my order and paid $920 for the eu2000, the 12volt charge harness and a silver canvas-like cover. I think the Genny was about $870 by itself - well over $100 less that local dealers!

Their prices included shipping, and there was no sales tax for shipping here to California. They shipped the genny the day I ordered it, and I got it out here in Northern Calif in about a week, UPS...great service, try them, you'll like 'em!

Oh yeah, and I couldn't be happier with the genny! It's quiet, just purrs along to charge my palapa batteries! I use a heavy 85 amp changer that really puts the 'juice' to our bank of (6) golf car batteries in no time!

We also use the genny now when we go camping - those old Coleman lanterns are a thing of the past! I just unreel my heavy wire, 100 ft extension cord to run power to our string of 110v lights hanging between trees over our camp site! The genny opens up all kinds of neat things while camping in the outback; blender, big stereo w/XM radio, small air compressor for the toys, small microwave oven, etc., etc!

I also bought one of those heavy plastic covered cable locking devices to secure the genny to a tree or other heavy object. You can get one of the 1/2 inch cable types with a built-in lock for about $15 at Home Depot or a similar place.

bajalou - 3-12-2006 at 09:15 PM

I got my eu2000i from Norwalk Equipment? I think. About $900 including shipping. I Emailed them first and asked if they would ship to a different address than my billing address and they said OK. This was a time that Mayberry and many others had waiting lists. Think it might have been a Ebay "Buy it Now"

Time to ship and they wanted to ship to my Calif address and charge me sales tax. I contacted the rep and mentioned the Emails we exchanged and said I wouldn't have got it there if I had to pay sales tax. They offered to eat the tax and I said OK.

Use it regularly to keep my solar batties up - on our "Poor Solar Days" 14-15 hrs on a little over a gallon of gas. Wonderful.

surfer jim - 3-12-2006 at 11:12 PM

Some good info here....thanks for the input.....just haven't had time to look into anything....never thought about using the gen to run 120 v lighting while camping....was just thinking about 12 volt source for recharge/radio/ect......also need to see where I can put it in the camper...this will be fun....and ANOTHER way to spend money..!!

Diver - 3-13-2006 at 07:43 AM

Careful where you put it !

We ran into a young couple on the beach in San Quinton.
They were towing a tent camper and had run their heater much of the night and had killed their battery. The hubby plugged in their el cheapo generator and placed it in the back of their pick-up to lessen the noise.

A few hours later, their battery still wasn't getting much charge when his wife went into the back of the truck for something and screamed, he knew he had another problem. Apparently, he had pointed the generator exhaust at a bag comtaining her shoes. Can you say melted insoles ? Managed to ruin one each of two pairs of wifey's shoes.

When he sheepishly came over to tell us what he'd done (we already knew from the open conversation just over the hedges), I loaned him our step-down charger and our Honda for a few hours to get his battery going again.

I'm hoping that same young couple will send us the pictures they promised. They had planned to see the whales at GN but didn't get to the beach/bog area until after dark. He confidently manuevered their tent camper and truck to what he thought would make a good spot to stay the night. Apparently, some time during the night he realized that he had not chosen a good place to camp. Tide came in and the truck sunk in the mud up to it's doors. Almost two days later, they got a truck from GN to come pull them out. The next day's tide was so high it would have covered the hood of the truck !! Anyone else meet the kids with the kooky dog named Wingnut ?

With all that, you might as well buy a Class A and join the rest of us "old foggies" that like our "creature comforts".:lol:
