bahia Tortugas

MICK - 11-16-2003 at 08:35 PM

I was wondering if anyone had any info on camping around tortuga bay. I would like to go there and check out Malirrimo Beach. Also about the road in?
Thanks.

Here's a link to some photos of Bahia Tortugas and even the mayor's phone number, who wishes more tourist would come! http://geocities.com/dchoapv/images.htm Also an article that was with the photos: http://dchoapv.com/article.htm If this link doesn't work, see the entire Bob Jones web site that has Meling Ranch and Punta San Francisquito photo pages, also... listed at http://davidksbaja.com/davidslinks.html scroll down to Specific Baja Locations.

CRISTOBAL always spoke highly of that area and the people.

The pavement in from Hwy. 1 at Vizcaino now goes to the Bahia Asuncion junction (about 45 miles), with the remaining 56 miles being graded dirt, often with a washboard surface...

I hope others who have been there recently can give you more details... Please write about it when you return!

I've always camped south of town on the bay. Nothing fancy but the town lights are beautiful at night. Also, hike into the bluffs as there are all kinds of shells and sand dollars from many years ago.

The town itself is very friendly and inviting. You could also camp north on the way to Pt. Eugena, too. Take one of the outlets to the ocean and there are some wonderful spots.

MALARRIMO BEACH

I have not been on the dirt road south of rancho SANTA MONICA to MALARRIMO BEACH but I know that the fishermen from TORTUGAS use the road a couple of miles south of the first PEMEX. Set your ODOMETER at this gas station and keep right as you head NORTH-EAST, after the turn off, to MALARRIMO fish camp. EL QUEEN (another fish camp) is four miles farther EAST. Your mileage should read 18 here and that is half-way to the first ESTERO .... as shown in your BAJA ALMANAC. Great for quads and motorcycles ... once you get out of TORTUGAS. Be careful in town ... keep your speed down and do NOT park on the wrong side of the street near the police station. They give tickets for that ....
