Guess where in Baja (Geologic formation)

David K - 5-18-2006 at 12:22 PM

Be specific (place has two names, either is acceptable)...

Photos have appeared on Nomad and are in my web site.

Many Nomads where there a couple years ago (you guys hold back your answers)...

Here is the newest photo taken this year at the bottom... below is the one taken showing a friend there in 1978...

Here's GeoRock describing what we are looking at...

The obsidian place? No? How about the fossil place?

Oh! Oh! I got it! The sedimentary layers place?

bajaandy - 5-18-2006 at 01:12 PM

Wait.... can I change my answer? The igneous intrusion place?

bajaandy - 5-18-2006 at 01:13 PM

The fault scarp uplift place?

The place with all the rocks?

John M - 5-18-2006 at 01:26 PM

Specifically - just a little west of the east edge of the southernmost north rim...or thereabouts.

Have a place here at the Juncalito overlook that looks just like it

David K - 5-19-2006 at 08:37 AM

You guys are funny!

Thanks for playing!:light:

Hint #1

The place is in Baja California Norte

David K - 5-19-2006 at 10:13 AM

Hint #2... The name is of a canyon or pass that crosses a small mountain range. The geologic formation is about midway through this canyon/pass.

so that would suggest...

woody with a view - 5-19-2006 at 10:17 AM

you'd have to go...over the river and through the woods...no, wait!

sorry- couldn't help it-

----this is strickly a guess (actually 2 guesses)----------is it along the Matomi Canyon, like in the narrows?? or in Canada el Parral where it crosses the Sierra San Felipe??

It looks vaguely familiar, but I cannot specifically place it.

I give up:?:

David K - 5-19-2006 at 07:01 PM

Ca?ada el Parral or Azufre Pass are the answers...:light: Good guess Barry!

Bob H - 5-19-2006 at 07:54 PM

I remember it well. Georock explained how these formations occurred. Very interesting... and on the way to Matomi falls!

-----actually Metamorphic, my dear SJ JOE, Metamorphic!!!

(details, details, details)

Skipjack Joe - 5-22-2006 at 06:39 PM

Actually I knew that.

It just doesn't rhyme with 'elementary' very well.

Sometimes I think DavidK is like baja's Sherlock Holmes out there.

David K - 5-22-2006 at 07:53 PM

Thanks!

or, known locally as "Crazy Horse", as named by Bruce Barber

Crazy Horse?????

Barry A. - 5-22-2006 at 09:26 PM

-------now there HAS to be a story behind that--------------care to share?????

bajalou - 5-22-2006 at 09:34 PM

Think that in the early 90's he was going thru the canyon with some friends in buggies and saw a wild horse running off to the side of canyon in the direction they were going. So instead of "Wild Horse", he called it "Crazy Horse". Name them for something that got our attention. Like finding a skul in a small canyon and calling it "Ram's Head"

David K - 5-22-2006 at 10:22 PM

Barry, you will really enjoy Bruce Barber's book... It has a ton of details on the San Felipe Desert, Valle Chico, and many canyons, plus Bruce's search for the Lost Diaz Grave made famous by Choral Pepper... Ordering detail are in my Baja Notebook (link at the bottom of my posts).

I thought David could write:

"The Case of the Missing Mission"

:lol::lol::lol:

Thanks, David----

Barry A. - 5-23-2006 at 10:02 AM

----I will look into getting that book.
