Will any of us bump into each other? My plan is (this may change) to leave San Diego Tuesday afternoon and go straight to San Quintin (Gypsy's at
Cielito Lindo) for the night... Breakfast burritos from Laura Wednesday morning then straight to Gonzaga Bay... maybe a visit with Coco on the way in
from Chapala. We (my son and I) will be camping at Alfonsina's at an amigos lot. Look for a gold '01 4WD Tacoma TRD with Baja stickers on the back! I
will be exploring various sites around Gonzaga (mines, springs, the El Camino Real). Come on by and say 'hi' or join us! My son will have his 110 dirt
bike, as well.

Wish the drive from Tucson to Mexicali was not so long. We have to experience Baja California vicariously thru reports like yours. I save some of
these in My Crumpton's Topographic Atlas which is now bursting at the seams...!!

What about Sonora? isnt it apealling to you? i am sure they have to have some nice places, give us the story.

Hola Jesse , Yes we go to Sonora occasionally, and one of our favorite times is at Thanksgiving. But now we are pulled in different directions by
family and circumstances.
A few years ago, We had a group (Az Native Plant Society, Huachuca Hiking Club) full Thanksgiving dinner on the Camino del Diablo on our way to
Tinajas Altas in Cabeza Prieta. Kind of weird coming across all the grave markers on that occasion. Padre Kino took that trail along with Diaz (the
conquistador) .
Kino was the first to determine that Baja was not an Island (1697)by looking down from Cerro Pinacate (We camped there 4 times) just south of the
Camino, seeing the mouth of the Colorado River.
Melchior Diaz, one of Coronado's explorers (January 8, 1541), ended up running into his spear chasing a camp dog near the geothermal fields (some
historians think) near Mexicali. He himself may be buried somewhere along this road.
Rocky Point is like Padre Island, kind of plain and boring. Baja California has more diversity and many places are like the old frontier of the West
and Alaska. Flora and vegetation and geology and juxtaposition with the sea are incomparable.
Sonora auto permits are a hassle along with toll roads to Guaymas, San Carlos and Kino Bay, Alamos.
Mainly though, like the writer said -- Baja California is adictive. ... Saludos, Jesse
