surfer jim - 8-15-2006 at 05:36 PM

Does anyone know the hours the immigration office is open there? I read something about a month ago but can't find it now....

8-4PM M-F but remember when you get there from the north their time is an hour off...

so they close at 3PM TJ time

You can get a tourist visa easily there but it is MUCH easier at the border.

elgatoloco - 8-16-2006 at 06:25 AM

On July 12th we pulled up at 6:00 PM local time heading south and se?or migra met us with a broad smile and a hearty hey there ho there hi there, based on my limited spanish.

It is MUCH MUCH MUCH easier at the border.

There is always the bypass road. :O

Remember if you go down without a visa they also check you on the way back up.

last Friday they were there and checked me a 6.30 pm.

capn.sharky - 8-16-2006 at 07:48 AM

Just like most Mexican offices---they are open when they get there and close when they can. Bob is right when he says 8 am to 4 pm. But you can't count on it. If you have an FM3 you can get it stamped in Loreto at the Immigration Office or the Airport when you get there. They understand the Guerro Negro office works like all government offices. I believe you have 72 hours to check in after passing GN. By the way, has anyone ever been checked for their Visa---besides at the airport when they leave?

Bob and Susan - 8-16-2006 at 07:53 AM

yep GN...they write it down..if they are open...

we usally pass GN at 6AM Sunday...they are closed

Bruce R Leech - 8-16-2006 at 07:55 AM

besides at the airport when they leave?

yes many times. on the beach, walking down the street, driving my car etc. etc.

Never been checked---------

but I ALWAYS get one, just in case, and it is "the law".

jide - 8-16-2006 at 08:41 AM

I went thru that Guerrero Negro migra checkpoint at 10 pm once, and they issued us visa to pay at the bank.

surfer jim - 8-16-2006 at 11:00 AM

Wanted to "sneak" thru.....but the hours are so random it may be hard to do easily.....may have to go legit.....

toneart - 8-16-2006 at 11:30 AM

Jim,
Why not go legit? It is easy to get an FMT at the border. I agree with your sentiment to try and sneak in. Being citizens of the planet, I think all borders should come down but reality has it that we must comply with existing laws. The consequenses, if caught, are not worth it. By the way, the immigration "hassle factor" is not unique to Mexico. Most Baja lovers and livers (not a tequila reference) agree that, once you have jumped through the hoops, the joy and the beauty of Baja is worth it.

woody with a view - 8-16-2006 at 04:23 PM

the fine print on my lewis and lewis policy say, in TINY letters, "policy may be void without proper immigration documents for the driver".

may is a BIG 3 letter word.

capn.sharky - 8-17-2006 at 09:02 AM

I wounder how you feel about the Mexicans in California, there only a little illeagle" Must be the Canadian spelling of wonder---they're or They are--and illegal. My spell check is in english only. Having just returned from London I know the English spell differently than we do.

Sharksbaja - 8-17-2006 at 02:15 PM

I got tired of the grouchy ol' Mexican at the refurbished(you can pay there now) Ensenada office. It is very easy in TJ and they are MUCH nicer! You can pay at a bank within 72 hrs ifn' you're in a hurry. I have paid at the banco in Sta. Rosalia.

Bob and Susan - 8-17-2006 at 03:01 PM

the bank in tj is 3 windows away and open 24/7...why wait
