Hi there - I've been to Mexico a few times but never to Baja -- thinking of taking my dad there for his 60th this new years...I found a neat looking
place to stay in Ensenada, but cant tell if the town would be a fun place to be for 4-5 days...are there beaches there? some fun outdoor/shopping
things to do that arent mega-touristy? your honest opinions are sought.

I love Ensenada, but i am not sure about spending 5 days there, first of all when are you thinking of visiting? i wouldnt recommend it during the
winter, the beaches are gray and cold, the wine festivities are over and not much to do or see (if you like that type of weather its not a problem).
If you are taking your dad, i am sure he would prefer a warmer place where he can enjoy the beaches and the scenery, so if you want to fly down here
try Loreto, or La Paz, or san Jose del cabo, theres plenty of other choices and i am sure the people here will give many other options.
If you give us more info on your needs and your budget and means of transportation, we can surely tell you how to have a wonderful trip.

If you really want to drive (which I recommend), better go to San Felipe.
Jesse is right about Ensenada weather in the winter. There are several nice sand beach campgrounds north of SF and if you have an SUV, plenty of
places to explore. Shopping is limited.
