As a wine maker I'm wondering where the Mexican authorities stand on visitors carrying wine across the border for their own use. I was thinking of
bringing down five or ten gallons.

You are allowed three liters of alcoholic beverage per adult.
But has anyone ever been checked?

Just spread it around and you should be fine.
We bring a couple of cases per vehicle and no one has cared.

It is not illegal to bring anything into Mexico as long as the weight of your vehicle dosnt cause you to go to secondary inspection! And even then it
shouldnt be a problem. I ussually take 10+ cases of home brew across and $20 Bucks is the biggest fine I have ever paid!

Vehicle weight has nothing to do with getting a red light. It is purely random unless guards stationed at the gates notice something. They then will
motion you over even if you get a green light.
The best way to beat it is to be right on the tail of the vehicle in front of you. If he gets a green the system wont reset until both of you have
passed. If he gets a red, hit your brakes.
