BajaNomad - 12-3-2006 at 12:03 PM

Nice pic.

Here's one of my older favorites.... and it's an old, old scan... of a photo taken in 1993. The person walking is one of my college roommates, Steve Lancisi, who passed away a couple of years ago due to some health issues. Glad we had a chance to share this trip together....

Natalie Ann - 12-3-2006 at 01:09 PM

I am very much drawn to your photo, Doug... the way the various colors of light and dark interplay, and especially the feel of that image. What a wonderful remembrance to have of your friend.

FARASHA - You already know how I do so like those two photos you took in Mulege.

CasaManzana - Those colors are simply stunning! And you get to wake up every morning to some variation on this view??? Oh how extremely blessed you are!

I have lots of sunrise/sunset images... but none compare to these. I believe I'll enjoy this contest as a spectator.

Jim,

No way to top your photo. It's the composition as well as the fire in your sunset that makes it. The Bougainvilla in the foreground, with its strangely contrasting (and yet, compatible) color really enhances the sunset, if that's possible.

I owe you a cerveza for photographing my flood damage in my casita. Now, I owe you at least another for allowing me the privilege of viewing this photograph. See you in January. :bounce:

Oh, and Farasha...Don't sell yourself short. Your photos are beautiful (of course, you knew that!). I think yours belong in a separate contest because it can't be judged with fiery
sunsets. Yours has an eerie beauty that only color diffused through haze can create. You call it "velvet". Perhaps velvet conjures an image of sensuality in me that should probably be illegal.

Well, wait a minute....maybe I spoke too soon, Jim. It is too early to judge. Some others are coming in that may share 1st place. Second or third place and honorable mention may not be adequate awards for these.

OOPS! Who is the judge here anyway? Sorry. By the way, what is the prize? I may have to buy a few cervezas. Let's see...so far, that adds up to, uh,.......:wow:

toneart - 12-3-2006 at 08:15 PM

So many great photos!

Don Alley, I assume that one of your photos, the one with the green off to the right is a sunrise, based on the islands beyond your position on the beach in Loreto.
It would appear that the "green flash" exists in sunrises too. (I have never heard that, though)

The black and white photo from tripledigitken reminds us that great composition and technique makes great art. It is as competitive as any color photo. Whereas color jumps out at you, B&W draws you in and the result is very gratifying.

I cannot comment on all the photos that are coming in, some are stunning! Casa, you got a contest goin' on!

SEA OF CORTEZ SUNRISES

I really enjoy the beauty of Sunrises in Baja. But sadly, I’m not always up to see them. I usually like to sleep in a bit when I’m on vacation.

That Chivato shot is incredible.

Only 534 hours, 40 minutes and 24 seconds until I head south.

Not that I'm counting down or anything. That would be silly.

That's a helluva shot bajadogs!! It was great without that sliver of moon but that just makes it outstanding. You could make a poster out of that one. I am envious.

2. Turtleandtoad's 2nd shot (colors are magnificent)
3. Tied between Don Alley or Ken Bondy's Sunset @ Laguna San Ignacio (great colors)

these pictures are beyond words....INNEFFABLE....even looked it up to make sure I spelled it correctly due to the fact there is no other to use to describe what you ...all..have shared with us. I just again beg you to take a few minutes to upload them on the wunderground. com weather site.....I happen to have an addiction to looking at the somtimes 700,000 + photos taken around the world by vacationers....I can go anywhere I want on the planet if I just put the name of the area and I am there.....and OMG if I where not a resident here I would be beside myself if I saw them on the weather site. I can't stop looking at them they are all so beautiful....and I can walk 180 steps and see it for real....which of course I do....but your pictures make me feel like I have never seen it before......unbelievable.....

For sunrises, buy a digital camera, wake up early, and point and click. Point and click. It's that easy. Do it 12 times for each sunrise. Repeat at sunset. That's a 12 step program. You'll get awesome photos.

I'm a camera bozo, with a simple camera. I still repeatedly take pictures with my thumb over part of the lense.

In my photos, it's Mother Nature and her sunsets that does all the work. That and maybe a little luck.

Capt. George - 12-7-2006 at 06:14 AM

KNOWING Kelly - and I imagine the ONLY photos we will ever get to see are SUNSETS, and maybe MOONRISE and MOONSETS!!!:lol: So no 12 steps possible so far. We will work on it when I get there !!

NOW that are awesome Photos you make DON - given the fact that you do not consider yourself to be a Professional!! I Love them - they are not FLASHY, by seeking for effects, when taken. But transpire the feeling of the moment you took them!! Sensible Pictures!!
