Gas shortages in BCS

Marie-Rose - 12-4-2006 at 08:19 AM

GAS SHORTAGES IN CABO, SAN JOSE DEL COBO AND LA PAZ? - We have heard from two sources this morning that there may be no gas in these three major cities in BCS due to a possible strike? Does anyone know anything about this to confirm or deny this rumor? We also heard that Todos Santos has gasoline (although with their usual "Markup").

This came thru this am from our local internet new letter...anyone know anything more???

Heard the rumor in the bank this morning in Todos. No lines at gas stations in Todos or Pescadero this am.

Wow. that will really be bad for a lot of people.

What price do you guys now pay for the liter?? it is 7.41 here in the North

Very long lines Saturday. Not too bad today. Both Aramburo Pemex are closed or partially closed.
We heard that it had something to do with the barge that brings fuel over to us.
Diesel was no problem.

Did not fully pay attention. Think it is 6.24 pesos here for verde (regular)

Jst filled up in La Paz (4 PM) and had no lines, no wait, no restrictions. Been driving around today, no abnormal lines, etc. With the Norther blowing since Thursday it sometimes happens the barge is delayed. Glad I filled up.

A friend called from Guerro Negro yesterday afternoon. No deicel (sp) there or Jesus Maria They spent the night and waited for a truck to show. Haven't heard since then so I suppose they are OK.

Gas and diesel have been a problem for about two weeks. last week San Ignacio and GN were out but Vizcaino was filling tanks. Was told it was due to rough gulf seas holding up the fuel barge.

My office is on Highway 19. Have watched numerous gas trucks going south to Cabo today.

when the wind blows the barges cant cross to Santa Rosalia and La Paz. so gas gets short for a while. the wind has been blowing for quit a few days now so I think the problem will get worse for a while.

Big problems / line-ups on Saturday in Cabo, due to broadcast on radio that there were to be shortages - a self-fulfilling announcement. Still have gas in TS, as of this pm.

That's a pretty cool avatar Acuity!!! You must have nothing but time on your hands!!!
Meanwhile, we are busy shoveling snow!!

Something to keep in mind too is that around Christmas there is often a gas shortage as everyone is travelling and if the gulf is rough it makes it worse...often between Christmas and New Years folks get stranded in towns in central baja sooo....gas up whenever you can everybody during the holidays...(Vizcaino was out of gas too a few days ago)

Osprey - 12-5-2006 at 06:59 PM

The gas barges offloaded yesterday in La Paz. Should be able to get back to normal all around in short order now.

Bruce R Leech - 12-5-2006 at 07:40 PM

good news thanks Osprey

cabobaja - 12-5-2006 at 08:07 PM

Did not see one gas truck going south today from La Paz to Cabo. Thanks Osprey, according to your post...should see them tomorrow.
