An open military checkpoint

Taco de Baja - 12-12-2006 at 10:12 AM

I was surprised to see an open military checkpoint on my trip to the Guadalupe Canyon area this weekend based on the reports of them all being closed or staffed by one guy waving everyone through.

It was west-bound on Highway 2 at the base of the grade up to La Rumorosa. Two vehicles in our group were waved through, two were pulled over (including one with two cute senoritas, two 2-year olds, and a 4-year old  )

Our total group included 10 adults and 7 kids all aged 2 to 4 (future Nomads :) ) It was a great long weekend with perfect weather, no major issues, and fun and frolic for all (full trip report and pictures to follow later in the week)

That would make sense. Even if the military is short on manpower due to re-deployment and perhaps the holidays, that checkpoint is closer to the border. It is therefore, more critical.

Everyone suspects cute senoritas without burkas and tiny tots as smugglers or terrorists.:lol:
