Hey all!
New Baja enthusiast (hopefully)! I'm looking for a place my family used to go when I was little called Punta Colonet.
I was wondering if anyone had heard of/been to/knows anything about this place that I have such great childhood memories of.
I want to know if it is still primitive camping. Pictures show a beach, cliff, and sand dune and not much else. Also, how to get there and any
advice you might have for an experienced camping entusiast, but Baja novice.
Please offer me any of your advice. The trip is tentatively planned for late June (if I can find it again...it's been a few years =)

Beachbum, mi amigo -- do a search on Punta Colonet. A lot of stuff going on there - talk of building a new port, etc....not a Newport, but a new port
- to be bigger than LA, Long Beach and God knows what else combined - a HUGE port to bring all that Chinese junk (no pun intended) to Mexico and on to
the USofA....lots of land disputes between and amongst Ejido members....great reading. Have fun!

You might have gone camping at San Antonio Del Mar. You turn off the highway at the north end of the town of Colonet and go out to the beach. There
are some dunes there, big wide beach - sound familiar?

It is still there....do you have any more details of the beach? ...Big cliff or small?.....what did you do when you went there?.....just thinking it
might have been some place close to it and not that exact location.....

Get a Baja Map (AAA has a good one)... The town of Colonet is 75 miles south of Ensenada... to the west 7 miles is San Antonio del Mar and 10 miles
south of there is Cabo (Punta) Colonet...
Sand dunes at San Antonio del Mar that have been discovered to be rich in titanium... mining to come... the poor gringos who built vacation homes will
not be happy!
The bay formed by the cape or point of Colonet is a primary choice for a new giant container port with a railroad line to the U.S.
Baja can not stay the same forever, boo hoo!!!
I camped at the big sand dunes in 1980, the last time down to San Antonio del Mar.

Dang David, I just left the container shipping business and thought Baja - at least - was safe due to the strict inter departamental issues within the
Mex. Gov. Well, guess it's best to relive your memories asap and enjoy Baja best possible in times to come.

Baja has been in my blood since I was a kid in the 60's!
I love the great outdoors, desert, canyons, old ruins of mines and missions, rock art... Baja has all that and more!

Outstanding websight. Saved it as a favorite because it'll take all day or 2 to go
through it. Baja Fever is so true. First trip to Baja was in 1989 - 4x4 landcruiser - scared stiff to go it alone. Took a friend and from then on it's
history.
Can't live w/o it.

I use to hang out in San Antinio and camped many times at the point. Last time we were there we camped south of the point on a nice streach of beach
and a guy came up to us in the middle of the night and said his buddy was shot and the truck stolen. We went to town to get the police then headed
south and never went back. Story hit the news in LA. Never have seen or heard about those 2 again. Last I heard the guy who got shot was OK. Too many
desperados north of El Rosario.
Anyone know an old gringo named Roy who has a house at the top of the dunes in San Antonio? He has an old Vet he keeps covered there. Is he still
there?
