Mexican Car Insurance at Tijuana Airport?

Is there an affordable way to get Mexican car insurance at the Tijuana airport?

We've decided to take the bus from San Diego to Tijuana Airport and pick up a rental car there. (Fares seem more reasonable than renting on the U.S. side.)

I don't want to get in the car without Mexican liability insurance, and I can't find a place to buy it online without knowing the make, etc. of the car ahead of time. It seems obvious that there should be a way to get this insurance at the airport, but can't find anything online to assure me of this.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there internet access in the airport or desks that sell insurance somewhere? Do car rental companies provide this option and just don't bother to talk about it on their websites (and is it much more expensive than other options?)

Thanks for all your help!!!!

Hello iclarke,

You will have to get the insurance from the agency that you are renting from - they require you to do it that way. That said, you are pretty much at the mercy of the company and what they are going to be charging for the extra insurance. Unfortunately it is usually overpriced and the insurance ends up costing as much if not more than the rental itself.

Good luck!
