I would love to get a little input on some of the decisions we're trying to make for an upcoming Baja trip. We're looking to go sometime in June,
reason being, we need atleast a little time to prepare, but want to go as soon as possible.
My initial thought is to fly into SJD and rent a car from there. The activities that I'm primarily interested in doing is tent-camping along the
coast, fly-fishing for jacks and roosterfish, snorkeling/diving, maybe an ATV trip into the desert and generally relaxing. We're really not into the
touristy stuff so we're going for more of the laid back secluded camp spots, portions of paradise kinda' thing.
Am I thinking right that Baja Sur is going to provide the most opportunities for all this without having to drive the length of the peninsula? I've
heard quite a bit about Bahia Concepcion and how wonderful it is. Does the Sea of Cortez side offer more in the way of peaceful snorkeling and
fly-fishing than the Pacific side?
I wouldn't mind doing some backpacking in one of the parques, but I'm a little worried about leaving the car behind, not to mention the fact that it
may be hot as all git out in June.
So with all that said, any help you could provide as far as what part of the country would give us good fishing, snorkeling and good scenery.
Speaking of Scenery, what does the northern part of Baja offer in that category? I've heard of a great Park in the mountains of Northern Baja, but
can't remember the name.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

In July, 2000, Lorenzo de Baja and I went to several interesting sites that all were reached by driving, with little walking. They included Punta San
Carlos, Las Pintas, El Marmol & El Volcan area, Mision San Fernando and nearby petroglyphs and old copper mine, San Juan de Dios mission visiting
station, the SAN PEDRO MARTIR park and the observatory at 9,280', the Pacific coast at Baja Malibu Sur... all in one week! See our photos of all these

I'm definitely interested in the pics, thanks for the link. I'll have to research each of those spots. It looks like we've been relegated to going
in October instead of June. I'll have a little more time to plan now which is good.
I'll check out Graham's books as well. thx.

Soooo many places to go in Baja. If you want to start with a pleasant overnight not too far from San Diego, you could camp at Agua Caliente
hotsprings, 23 miles east of Ensenada. Nice campground, great hot pool, hiking unlimited (the canyon gorge, streamside hike is very nice). If you
wanted to drive another 40 miles or so, you could find yourself in the Parque Constitution, Sierra Juarez. Pine forest, great camping. No water in
the lake right now. Just did a 3-day weekend to these spots and had a very scenic, relaxing time. Stop in Ensenada for the fish tacos at the pier.
