My cousin, Hudson Elliott and I climbed Matomi in May, 1995(we lucked out by getting only 80 degree weather in May!), by way of the same route, I
believe, as the "cowcamp" trip. I think the water they found running was what we called "Arroyo Uribe" (since its passes by Mesa Uribe). Be
forewarned that the water may be there in a wet winter but that by May, on our trip, there were only stagnant pools with cowpies.
If you're a plant nut like I am its an interesting transect--from cardon/boojum central Baja vegetation up through a patch of chamise on Mesa Matomi
and into sparse Pinyon woodland on top with Ceanothus, Sumac chapparral understory.....and the view......well, you had to be there......I'll be happy
to show photos if I can get them uploaded, but it doesn't seem to work(any suggestions...? The photos don't show up when I preview the post).
