Last year I rented a car in the Cabo airport, and got the full coverage insurance because I understood it was mandatory. The insurance ended up
costing more than the car rental.
We will be renting a car again this year, and I'm wondering if there are more economical ways to be properly insured.

It would be cheaper for you to go find a car to buy and get an annual policy.

What do you mean by that.
You only have to get MX liability, not Collision or Comphrensive. The rental company will try to sell you both.
Your credit card may provide collision/comphrensive coverage.
