loreto vs mulege

20 yrs ago I made several fishing trips to Loreto and absolutely feel in love with the area
A wife, a triple bypass and lots of miles later I finally have the time to return. I will be travelling with my new bride and want her to enjoy the area. So I have several questions:
It sounds as if Loreto has become somewhat turisty and Mulege might be more like what I remember about Loreto..any comments?
Also looking for reccomendations for a place to stay. Fortunately money is not a problem, we are looking for someplace clean quiet and on a good swimming beach...we are planning on staying 7-10 days

Loreto is still delightful.

In Loreto, the tourists seem to congregate in particular areas. Walk off the beaten path, and, as a gringo, you'll receive stares for your peculiarity.

I don't find that to be the case in Mulege, which is smaller, but possibly has a higher percentage of gringos present. Still a wonderful small town... and close to Conception Bay.
