Ligui-- questions

Anonymous - 10-18-2002 at 10:00 AM

I would like to get some info. on Ligui (S. of Escondido).
I know wher the turn off is but I was traveling in a Motoho
(not to good to explore in) and it looked kind of private like
so didn't venture in. Do I need to stop at the first house
and ask permission? What is the road in like? What is the
shore line like (gravel, rocky, sand), steep incline (boat
launching) size of area (would it get crowded)
From reefrocket but could get logged in! Probably has
to do with Intelligence Level on this end.

No, you do not need to stop at the turnoff. You can take your motorhome down to the water, there are usually several there. You go by the school and proceed pretty much in a straight forward direction. There is a guy by the name of Jerry who has a German Accent and even though he talks like he owns the place he doesn't. They may come by and see if you will donate to the baseball team since you can camp there for free. I usually do since I would be paying somewhere. Does not seem to be a lot of petty theft but I never leave anything out in plain sight and take normal precautions.
There are a few places that make really nice campsites some are more marginal. They do not want you to camp at the area referred to as the fish camp. It is a little tough to launch a boat, definately need 4x4. It stays shallow quite a ways out but I do ok with a 17 ft aluminum boat. I usually try to get in before real low tide. You can always launch at Escondido bay to the North. Make sure you have permits for the National Park if you are going to fish there, they have a ranger now. Finally, be sure to buy a lot of tamales from Gloria, they are the best.

Pescador thank for the info.

I won't be down for quite a whole so it looks.
But I had seen Motoho.s out in there and didn't know
just how or what was there. Stayed at Juncalito last
Jan. Next trip (when??? I don't know) I hope to be
much more mobile. I/m still just trying to gather as
much info. as possible about the wonderful BCS area.

Besides Playa Ligui drive south at the junction between the Hwy. and the beach to Ensenada Blanca. It is beautiful with little islands off in the sea. I have a photo of it. The site of the mission of Ligui was near the junction. Some of the mission's foundation is in the enlarged arroyo you cross just south of the junction. Hi ya David K

You too! I've tried seven ways to Sunday to get logged in.
Thanks for the info. Didn't even know there was forks in the road.
I did finally get my Norte @ Sur Almanac. Exploring by paper just
isn't the same as being there!!!!
