Baja- green, green, green

thebajarunner - 2-22-2008 at 10:08 AM

Baja Vida and I just returned from ten days and the green landscape is simply amazing.
I have been a Baja regular since 1971 and have never seen the countryside this green and glorious.
Fields of flowers, bright green grass (estilo Baja grass that is) and lots of very happy elephant trees, ocotillo, cirio, barrel cactus.
At Meling Ranch they told us they had measured seven inches of rain in the past month.
And of course the snow stopped us at the Parque Nacional entrance, just too much for my two wheel drive F-150.
This follows several years of virtually no rain at all, so it is welcome and gorgeous.
The cows are fat and happy.
All's well in the land.

Same down south here. Wonderful to see. I hope all that plant life knows it owes it all to me and my green-house gas pumping pals who make global warming and this welcome, unusual rainfall happen.

Well here in TS, we need some rain. After the late fall wetness, nothing of significance, and the landscape is looking a little parched. And the dust ...

But if I could order it to come just at night, that would be ideal.

Not only is our horse fat and happy asleep in a field of purple flowers but the ranch cheeses are outstanding and this years honey will be fantastic...hurray.

Curious how this year compares to 1997....I'll never forget all the lupine between San Felipe and Gonzaga...reminded me of the High Sierras instead of the desert.

Even here in San Diego... it's the greenist I've seen it in years! Can't wait for the wild flowers to appear. This year's desert bloom should be fantastic.
