Surf Competition in Bahia Asuncion August 9

this year's annual summer surf fiesta will take place on Sunday at Los Chorros beach just south of Bahia Asuncion...everyone welcome. Some of the prizes were donated by nomads too(2 surf boards, 2 skim boards, wet suits and wax)!!

This event is sponsored by Bianca...a candidate for queen of the fiestas and Bajaboy's neighbour...see ya there dudes.

hi shari,

Me and my friends are leaving San Diego on Thursday and we will first be stopping by the Seven Sisters area first then since seeing the flyer are gonna try to make it out to the competition by sunday. Hows the road from Vizcaino?

the road is mostly paved but they are laying blacktop down on the last part and the side road is pretty good...tomorrow i'll have an updated road report as visitors are arriving

are you guys gonna participate??? i dont think they've ever had a gringo enter so it would be cool...looks like that tropical depression may send some waves our way for sunday.
Hang a left when you get to the junction towards pta.prieta...Los chorros is 2 miles down...there is a surfboard at the turnoff to the break.

Do you know if they are selling shirts for the surf contest? I have one of the festival shirts which are a deal at 100 pesos.

sounds like they are doing up a special batch of surf shirts for the event...want one? The profit from beer sales and shirts will go towards Bianca's "queen of the festival" fund....she's way out in front.

Arrived here yesterday---Tuesday.

Also 4 miles of the road from Vizcaino has been resurfaced! It was terrible before----so great from Vizcaino to the Ejido.

After that---quite good for several miles, but be careful. It deteriorates with some nasty potholes---they are filling more every day. Some of the pot holes are really deep and very large. Small hard a rock dunes in some area---just go around.

Take it easy when you first turn on the pavement toward Bahia Asuncion. Just a couple miles in there is still a nasty drop from where the road washed out a couple of years ago.

From there, a few bad places. The second part they paved is beautiful. As of yesterday, the next part the pavement was being put down and rolled out so should open very soon, we hope.

Then still about 11 miles of dirt--little rough, few soft spots, but with the fiesta coming, we hope it is graded right away.

When you can first see Bahia Asuncion, there will be a fork in the road. The fork to your right looks like the direct route, and it will take you there---AKA the roller coaster road. Follow the main road that follows the utility poles and that takes you right into town.

There will be one more fork and I think the sign is down?? Stay right for Bahia Asuncion, left is the dirt road to Abreojos and also the road to where the surf tournament will be.

Yes, a LG please...I'll catch you when I'm down. It was great to see how Bianca's family came together to help her raise money. We especially enjoyed the abalone tamales they were selling.

unfortunately we could not leave this thursday but we are definitely leaving on wednesday and hope to make it out by friday/saturday. We are gonna be camping looking for good surf and place to spearfish, any suggestions???
