Okay, nomads. It's milking time. Who will volunteer?

Ken Bondy - 8-23-2009 at 07:24 AM

Nice Roger. They need to do some gender testing on that "cow". In any event, I'm not checked out in milking so I will have to pass. Both images are great. ++Ken++

Pompano - 8-23-2009 at 07:31 AM

Hah..exactly what I thought when this cow appeared, Ken. I milked many a cow in my childhood, but this one I would have let out of the barn. ;)

3. Hey...we built our own palapa!

Bajagypsy - 8-23-2009 at 07:41 AM

Pompano, I would love a palapa!!! Those are great pictures buy the way. I'm a farm girl, and no way would I milk that cow:lol:

Pompano - 8-23-2009 at 08:24 AM

Short hijack for levity:

The Milk Cow

The only cow in a small town in Arkansas stopped giving milk. The people did some research and found they could buy a cow up in Muncie, Indiana, for $200.00. They bought the cow from Indiana and the cow was wonderful.

It produced lots of milk all of the time, and the people were pleased and very happy. They decided to acquire a bull to mate with the cow and produce more cows like it. They would never have to worry about their milk supply again.

They bought a bull and put it in the pasture with their beloved cow. However, whenever the bull came close to the cow, the cow would move away.

No matter what approach the bull tried, the cow would move away from the bull and he could not succeed in his quest. The people were very upset and decided to ask the Vet, who was very wise, what to do. They told the Vet what was happening. "Whenever the bull approaches our cow, she moves away.

If he approaches from the back, she moves forward. When he approaches her from the front, she backs off. An approach from the side and she walks away to the other side."

The Vet thinks about this for a minute and asked, "Did you buy this cow in Indiana?"

The people were dumbfounded, since they had never mentioned where they bought the cow. "You are truly a wise Vet," they said. "How did you know we got the cow in Indiana ?"

The Vet replied with a distant look in his eye, "My wife is from Indiana.

I definetely know what you mean, fixtrauma...and good to hear from you again.

The milking stool reminds me of my Aunt Alice..who, like all my relatives, was not a small person. Over 6' and not a timid bone in her body, she was known as Big Al of Sheyenne
Valley. I have a mental picture of her now as I think of milking time. At her and my Uncle Norman's ranch...she is sitting on a milking stool filling a pail handily, squirting a quick stream at a kitten in the corner, then one at me..and then, when the huge cow jostled too close..shoving her shoulder into it's hind quarters to move it over. It moved right quick. You didn't mess with Big Al.

bajajudy - 8-23-2009 at 09:25 AM

All the cows here have that extra appendage where one would expect to see the bull member. I wonder why?
I believe it is her belly button.

Some local wanted the storefront, so Latitude 22 was kicked out. They are now up a side road next to the electric plant by Costco. City wouldn't let them put advertising on the highway, so it"s hard to find. I think they also dropped the name & it's now just the "Roadhouse". Fun place when the piano man is on!

...some 2x4 Mexican 'Masking Tape' during the re-paint of the memorial above the Bahia...

I've stopped there several times over the years, and once watched several Dolphins right below us in the shallows, as they frolicked in the clear, green waters...such things one never forgets...

Bob and Susan - 8-29-2009 at 05:50 AM

"I am off tortillas forever"...can't happen;D

side note:
there are two kinds of corn tortillas in mulege

sanchez and norma

the sanchez are the thicker
the norma are the thinner ones

norma tortillas make better chips
they melt in your mouth

the local restruants use the sanchez tortillas
as the chips last longer (less crushing damage)

Mike, I confess to an addiction to photography..and fishing.

A side story about things that never leave your hand:

As a break from the motorhome, we recently stayed in a motel the other night somewhere in Montana. I'm also a tv news addict and like to fall asleep watching tv, using the timer feature, and always have control of the remote! Never, never give up possesion of the remote.

As we were leaving through the motel lobby the next morning the desk manager looked up and said "Goodbye, and have a nice trip."

I waved with my hand and said, "Bye... thanks"

The manager quickly added..."Sir, would you mind leaving that remote?"

Iflyfish - 7-19-2010 at 07:34 AM

I remember camping on the very spot that you built your playapa and running my hands thru the sand for those chocolates! Magic place and wonderful photos!!

I recall my grandfather in North Dakota, nasty drunk, would buy green horses at the auction and break them and sell them back the next week. It terrified me watching him hobble those horses.

My brother and I once watched the scene of him milking one evening and shooting a stream at the cats, tie a knot in the cows tail, shoulder her and then fall drunk into the trough behind the cow. We of course broke out laughing and he chased us accross the barn yard covered in crap yelling obsenities at us. One of those forever etched images.

Iflyfish

Pompano - 7-19-2010 at 07:43 AM

Tequila seems to steady my grip.

1bobo, thanks for looking and writing. Your question about my choice of camera seems to put me in the category of experienced and professional photagraphers. I am not. I'm a point and shoot type..strictly an opportunist photo-hound who has been in love with cameras since my first..a Brownie Hawkeye.

A lot of my older photos I took with a Canon AE-1 Program...a very good and easy camera to use. Lots of pros DO carry one of those as a backup or spare. For the last few years I have been using one of these: Coolpix 4300, Nikon D-40, and Nikon D-90. For my amatuer picture-taking I prefer the D-40..easy to use in any situation, easy to fix after I screw it up...which I did just the other day. A quick stop at Brown's Studio in Coos Bay fixed the problem..no charge. Nice guy...so I bought a lens filter and finally a good camera strap.

I like SLR body-styles the best.
