Tripui Fire?

Don Jorge - 6-26-2004 at 08:26 PM

I just got a call from a friend who tells me his place and everyone elses place burned down in Tripui. I am buying a place there and he called to ask if I sent the money yet.
Any one else heard about this. I consider this source very reliable but would like to hear from others as to the veracity of this report.
Thanks in advance for any news!

David K - 6-26-2004 at 08:51 PM

Jorge, I posted your 'news' on Vags, as there was nothing yet there... Usually anything going on at Tripui makes the Vagabundos board... like the labor dispute of a couple years ago.

It is true. Many of my friends lost houses, boats and vehicles. My prayers and thoughts go out to them and I hope noone was hurt.

My wife was out on coronado island yesterday with a group of friends and they could see that tripui was ablaze, but we still haven heard first hand as to the severity of the damage.

My heart goes out to all who may have suffered losses.

Jack Swords has posted a message on Fred's board that he talked via short wave radio to locals there and the place did have a serious fire. Sounds like it is pretty much destroyed.

Tripui Image

LaTijereta - 6-27-2004 at 11:52 AM

Just had this image sent to me:(
It looks real bad for the people who have lost everything...

backninedan - 6-27-2004 at 01:07 PM

I just returned from a drive over to Tripui, and sadly the picture posted by LaTijereta is very accurate.

All of the palapa type structures are razed to the ground. everything west of the main gate is gone.

It looked like the buildings to the east of the main gate were undamaged (from what I could see)

I havent heard anything about injuries, we can only hope there were none.

Is this Tripui or Tripui RV Park on the way to Puerto Escondido?

Bob H - 6-27-2004 at 01:34 PM

WOW! How sad. I only hope no one was injured. One can always rebuild. Dang.

It is Tripui RV park on the road to Puerto Escondido, however, all the structures were"permanet"and some occupied year round. There is, or was an RV lot along the road just outside of the permanents.

Either way,

jrbaja - 6-27-2004 at 03:29 PM

this is really a bummer!

JESSE - 6-27-2004 at 04:27 PM

Was this a natural fire? or arson?

The Fire

Cyndarouh - 6-27-2004 at 07:09 PM

Looks like my area except the oaks are replaced by palms. Wonder if any of the relief organizations could help. I know several that have and are still helping here in the mountains of San Diego, travel all over Mexico and so on helping Should I ask? I Volunteer a ton up here and have gotten to know a lot of these people. Let me know what people need and what we can do to poss. help out. The picture was such a reminder of the Cedar Fires. I do have connections with Salvation Army. heck I past there FBI ck to be an empolyee during the fires. Denied any payment said it need to go back to help all those who lost more than us.. Still help with them. So let me know who knows all they can say is yes or no.

Tripui fire

Jay R - 6-28-2004 at 08:13 PM

Friends returned from Tripui today. Fire started at E-3. Buddies were three palapas down. They were sitting down to have a rum and coke when a woman came running down the row shouting fire(real hysterical). They had four five gallon buckets of water as water had been shut off. They grabbed the buckets, raced to the engulfed palapa, but in that short minute it was too late. They dropped the buckets, got their two vehicles out, a few clothes, and that was it. In twenty minutes the park was gone. Fire eventually died out(so it seemed). When they left that evening the RV portion of the park was intact. They returned the next morning (Sunday) and it was gone. Overnight, embers had been whipped up and erased that part . This is a total disaster, however, my friend says he saw only one guy with minor burns on his leg. Really a small miracle that nobody was killed.

way tragic!! reinforces though an important

THE BURN...

msawin - 6-30-2004 at 07:13 PM

I tried last night to post after my 1302 mile trip home via ford pick up with my cabo 226 that my son was able to hook up and pull out... One of the first out, of maybe 18-20 boats saved.....We were all so lucky for the time it happened...The largest group of residents in for the dorado... 5:00 ish... most in at that time...If this would have happened at night a very large number of folks would not be here today. We had a fire drill. It tested all. 25 minitue and all was gone..I was able to jump in my old ford and pull my buddies cabo 216 out the gate behind my son pulling mine out... The gas explosions were insane.. We happened to have nieghbor's son down for the week that is a fireman.. He took lots of photos that he will share with us when he gets home...He counted over 700 explosions... gas storage, gas tanks, propane, dive tanks....It was so loud with explosions... it moved so fast.. just a foot note , my buddie Will Block down with his wife to buy palpa, hooked and saved three boats alone...including the : Fuel Pusher", as the flames were ablaze above with the roof of the palpa....He was the last to crawl under the fence with the help of a few of our great hispanic workes of tripui....... A trip not to forget...

Wow Martin!

Sallysouth - 7-1-2004 at 01:32 PM

What an experience that was for you and all others there! So glad you saved Ron and Chris'"Fuelpusher"as they are really great peeps and they actually rescued us last year with their boat after spending the nite off the south end of Carmen in the" Revelvedos". Glad you are ok, sounds like a nitemare. Quick thinking on you and sons part. I commend you.

4th party

msawin - 7-3-2004 at 08:31 AM

Salley,

Very Sad

capn.sharky - 7-3-2004 at 04:04 PM

I talked with some of the victoms of the the fire at Tripui and feel very bad for them. Many lost years of memories in the fire. Snapshots, videos and other things cannot be replaced at any price. However, human life cannot be replaced either and thanks to God, no one was killed. The spirit of the people and their desire to rebuild will carry them through this ordeal. I think of the residents and of Alma every day and hope that things will work out for them. Sharky

I'll email Juanita and let her know you are not going to be there, but it is not likely she will get on the computer before then as she has 10 family members she has been entertaining and a sick baby to boot. Too bad you will miss it, I hear it is a doozer!I'm not there,as you can tell, but in So. Cal for the time being. Take care, Sally
