Baja Joe's La Ventana

M_Man - 7-10-2004 at 08:42 PM

Hola Amigos.

Has anyone here ever stayed at Baja Joe's?

I was thinking of staying for a week next July.

Specific questions:
Which accomodations?- rooms or trailers, and why.
Is there a way to freeze fish fillets daily?
Nearest tiendas?
How's that El Sargento Road?
Surf fishing at Baja Joe's?

We just got back from La Paz, and the daily drive to and from La Paz to Las Arenas to board our pangas just killed us! It ate up all our free time. I'd rather rent a car, drive once to La Ventana, and drive down to Las Arenas each AM, I'm guessing we'd get back at least two outta three travel hours. Not to mention the later wake-up deal!

The road's paved all the way thru Agua Amarga, and all the way to Muertos too. Hotel Las Arenas is still closed...

i was just going to ask

Las Arenas Doin's

Sadly, the Hotel is still closed.

The development continues out at Muertos, now renamed Bahia de los Suenos... Mega mansions in Fruit Loop colors are going up all over the hill just east of Muertos, with some on the flats above the picked-rock ramps.

The hotel's airstrip is in service though, it was paved last summer/fall, and there were aircraft parked on the apron most days we went by- one was a small corporate jet.

The street lights at Los Planes are off the hook, they're bright enough to tan by.

Baja Joe's Sked

Thanks Debra,

Back in '97 we looked into Baja Joe's after staying at the Hotel Las Arenas for five days. At that time, they seemed to be only open once the Winter Northerlies started blowing.

The website says they're open year round, with High and Low season rates. Does "Joe" live on site?

Baja Joe Responds

Well, here I go, answering my own post- again.

I emailed Baja Joe's and heard back from Angie of Joe's within 24 hours. She answered all my questions, and we will stay for our week in July 2005. Angie said that "fisherman are just now discovering us, so we're staying open during the summer months"

Of course, I'll post a report post-mortem report.
