Camping Report for Conception Bay - Feb & March 2010

Pompano - 3-6-2010 at 10:34 AM

MANY RVs IN CONCEPTION BAY THIS WINTER

A few of my neighbors and I noticed that for the last few weeks, there has hardly been a parking space available in Mulege during the day and early evening.

While there is LOTS of tourism in Mulege and Conception Bay this Feb/March, there is also room leftfor you on our beautiful camping beaches and RV Parks.

Here are some of the most popular areas in photos taken within the last week.

PLAYA COYOTE

PLAYA COYOTE (CLOSEST TO HIGHWAY EXIT)

OCEANFRONT ROAD TO PLAYA COYOTE

PLAYA COCOS (LITTLE CANADA)

PLAYA ESCONDIDO (GOOD YESTERYEAR VOLLEYBALL)

PLAYA SANTISPAC (AND ANA'S CAFE OF COURSE..uh, pay my bar bill, okay?)

THE TRUE 'ESCONDIDO' BEACH...so few know about this place. Just go around Santispac Beach.. and find this beach all to yourselves. Lots of nudists use this one.

PLAYA PUNTA ARENA (some say you can still smell smoke...)

PLAYA NARANJOS

!!STING RAY WARNING!!

The Bay is full of skates. Be very careful when wading or touching the bottom when swimming. You don't want to step on one of these guys. Cuidado.

STING RAY - SKATE HABITAT best to avoid these sargasso areas. There are about 10 skates in this photo...somewhere.

I hope there still room there for me, i will be there in a few weeks. Thanks Roger for your updates...

I love Bahia Concepcion, Roger. Your pix reminded me why. Thank you.

Thanks for the eye candy, Roger.

I really like the shadow in the first picture coming across like that. Shadows are a big part of the essence of baja landscapes to me.

Preview of things to come...

EASTER CROWDS! :wow: ;)

k-rico - 3-7-2010 at 09:21 AM

Those Easter crowds look like something I want to stay away from. I've had to delay, delay, and delay again my 2 week winter trip south to Bahia Concepcion. Now it looks like the earliest I can do it is March 14 through 28.

Easter is April 4. Will I be sneaking in before the crowds? I really don't like crowds and they don't like me - two dogs that bark at everything that moves - we're lousy neighbors.

Maybe it's best to wait until mid April. For us and everyone else, the fewer people the better.

What do you think?

You can find a peaceful place to camp even during the Easter weekend holiday, but you'll need to be creative about your location. You can find a place away from the crowds if you move inland. It can be anywhere from 5 to 25 miles down a dirt road away from the shore.

Oh, and sorry to Pompano for the hijack. I appreciate the beach camping photos more than you can know.

There's the other side of Concepcion Bay... bet you don't have crowds there.. and you can still be on the water!

Packo: 5-10 miles inland to avoid crowds??? That's extreme... You could be 1/2 mile inland and not see a soul... that's pretty harsh desert.

jahImpala3 - 3-7-2010 at 10:36 AM

Thanx for the update!

Pompano - 3-7-2010 at 10:42 AM

Easter Madness centers around Playa Santispac & Playa Coyote. Avoid those.

Drive around and check out the others first.

South - North in the Bay:

Playas Sur, Armenta, Perla, Requeson, Jaiba, Aqua Caliente, Burros, Cocos, Escondido, Posada, Santispac (annex), off highway to Arena, Naranjos, and north up the beach to Mulege.

Just below the micro-tower is a nice little beach that is almost always deserted. One of the closest to Mulege, too. There is a good trail off the highway. We had a lot of fun there many years ago...It's called Lover's Beach...Playa del Amor.

You will find something to yourself.

Actually, the 25 miles inland is a bit of a joke. I wouldn't mind trying to camp in the thick of the partying action if I could go there with my drinking friends. The crowds should scare away the stingrays, so hopefully romping around in the water should be safer. If I had the money, I'd hire a live banda group for a nighttime concert party and pig-roast. There should be portable toilets for the large crowds. I won't go there with my son during SS though. I would want to party the whole time, and I would neglect him.

David K - 3-7-2010 at 11:43 AM

There are some petroglyphs around there, however!

I feel like a pompano groupy, but thanks once again! Your photos tell so much about the area and your comments are very helpful ( and funny!)

Looks like a new fence at the Lighthouse ??
What is the new palapa development to the north ?

Bob and Susan - 3-7-2010 at 03:39 PM

pretty good eye diver...

had too many people driving to the water when guests were out front
...too dangerous

i'm still in compliance though
you can walk thru openings on both sides
just NO CARS
and there is a drive thru too for boats
...its disquised (sp);D;D

the property just north is "for sale"
the owner thinks it will go faster with palapas on it
they look pretty nice
very mexican

no water no toilets
the guard has maps and info

wrong time to sell:(:(

DianaT - 3-7-2010 at 03:49 PM

For some reason your photo of the volleyball beach is not coming up---just the image shack address?

I was going to show it to my son. In your last report I could see his truck parked there and he sure wishes he was still there. It is his favorite place to camp on that bay because with the access not as easy, there are never very many campers.

Diver - 3-7-2010 at 03:55 PM

The fence looks nice, Bob.
It gives some definition to the property.

DeMinimis - 3-9-2010 at 05:27 PM

Bob and Susan,

Depending where we end up on the Bay, you'll have to come over to the apocalyptomobile for some cold ones. Hopefully rolling in around the 17th. Hope you like evil kids, as we have two.
