BajaTripper's Mision Santa Maria 2010 Photos

David K - 9-16-2010 at 08:39 PM

On his way home to La Paz, 'bajatripper' (Steve and Zully) returning from the states, stopped by my house and we exchanged photo discs of our most memorable Memorial Day Weekend adventure to Mision Santa Maria (May 2010).

Here is a selection of his 150+ photos...

PART 1 The desert near Cataviņa and the road as far as the peninsular divide, 9.8 miles from Santa Ynez:

(can you guess where this is?)

Going down the Widowmaker!:

This drop off just before the mission is where a couple of us got our back bumper snagged ...

The mission!

Much more coming! Stay tuned!

At the oasis!

Hiking at the mission

It is great to see what was up the hill from the mission... Appears to be planting 'boxes' or terraces, that were once filled with soil for planting of crops... or maybe animal pens?

More coming...

Before leaving, some of us take the road on past the mission, which drops steeply down to the arroyo. You can see what happened to my bumper, the day before!

What goes down must come back up!

The caravan home, came to a halt here... a half mile from the mission when Neal Johns' differential exploded internally!

Then through the bog...

I dig bajatripper's shirt (as a former banana hobby grower)!

BajaTripper does some road building, on the Widowmaker!

Thank you 'bajatripper', Steve and Zully!!!:bounce::bounce::bounce:

You know what these rock formations were for?

My first thought was planters (terraced gardens), then I thought animal pens... based on the distance from the running water and the need to bring in soil, I am leaning towards animal pens.

So I wanna know how you got that truck out with no differential. Towing it up those hills musta been a PITA.

Hi there 'eyelash' and welcome to Baja Nomad!

I always post pretty detailed trip reports here soon after we return! Lots of photos, too! This was an epic adventure with 6 vehicles (4 Toyotas, 1 Dodge, 1 Chevy custom motorhome).

Go to the Baja Nomad Baja Trip Reports forum and scroll back to early June...

I will help... There are 4 parts (do to the number of photos)

Parts 1 & 2 + CG's photos: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=46050

Part 3: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=46087

Part 4 (incl. pulling Neal up the mountain and his differentail opened up)

The planning pre-trip page also had a lot of post trip stuff and that is where hbmurphy posted his trip photos, scroll to June 1 posts: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=45495&pag...

Just another great place in Baja where the harder it is to get to, the more special it is to be there!
