Rain and torture

gonetobaja - 9-7-2004 at 09:24 PM

Well I launched my boat in Puertecitos on Sunday morning. As I thought I was the only guy on the water for miles. The clouds were dark over the islands but I was hard up for an island fix and the boat was already in the water.

Ah what the heck, why not...

As we started to get to huerfanito Island we could see the rain comming up from the north. then more started comming from the east. You could see it comming at you across the water. a huge line, an color change where the rain was hitting the water in huge sheets.

Damn, these islands are about to show me who is boss, again...

Then it was on us. I throttled up and headed north to puertecitos and tried to outrun the storm. We had the nose up high to make speed in the waves and after about 20 min of playing cat and mouse with the edge of the storm line we finaly outran it. I estimate that the storm was moving about 20mph. We got out of the water and started back to camp. I saw another boat headed for the ramp. A real nice 20something ft power cat with twin 115 outboards, nice and new. while I was leaving he was getting ready to get in the water. It didnt look bad from shore, but it never does.

He was from AZ I think he must have a place down here too.

Still got a few trigger fish, didnt get into the water to shoot any grouper. Still had fresh fish tacos and pacifico.

I got to go out to the islands and get my fix. The next day the weather was perfect and the water was flat. The tide was dead and conditions were perfect.

"Ok were all packed up..."

too bad I have to leave. The sea of cortez is always teasing me, like a junkie who just got a bad dope deal, I was mad. I toyed with the idea of ditching the other 3 trucks in our caravan on the way back to mexicali and turning around, heck tuesday was going to be even better.

"Cmon lets go, radio check channel 5..."

this is torture...

I think Im gonna spend the night on Isla Salvatierra this time. There are big pargo there...

This last trip was a super teaser, I didnt even mention the nice labor day traffic. Nothing like a mid-week non holiday trip.

You're killing me

Dale:

Your killing me again. I have been ready to go again since my last trip in May. I just haven't had the time. Kids are in soccer and baseball started again, but that won't stop me. When all of these other family obligations die down, I will plan the next trip.

Anytime is the right time...

Al, be glad you are not a hopeless junkie like me. I purposely dont enroll my kids in those team sports because I know Im so damn flaky from baja that most of the time I will be a no show. Bad for the team.

One of the great things about going to baja is when you get there you feel like you never left...
