Fabric stores in La Paz?

danaeb - 9-26-2011 at 05:22 PM

I know where the big one is on Madero past 16th Sept, but I haven't been in. There was a very small shop next door to La Choya coffee on Colima that had handwoven Mexican cotton, but I don't know if it's still there.

I'm bringing a sewing machine with me to La Paz in a couple of weeks and would be happy for any recommendations.

Thanks

Dana

Dana - I think the big fabric store you mention is Parisina on Revolution just a couple of storefronts uphill from 16th Sept. Yep - it's big and has a pretty wide variety of fabrics. Vanessa on Padre Kino specializes in heavier upholstery fabrics - can't remember the cross street, but I think it's pretty close to Bravo. I've also heard (but haven't been there yet) that the store on the corner of Madero and Degollado now has fabric too. And at the artesania store on Abasolo and Oaxaca you can get their woven fabric by the meter.

I don't know about the shop on Colima by La Choya coffee - however, there is a relatively new shop on Jalisco up by Heroes de Independencia (by the bus station) that specializes in things from Oaxaca - maybe they have fabric too - might be worth a stop to check and see.

Hope that helps.

Moda Tela is in the former Mas dept. store building at the corner of Madero and Degollado. Three floors of fabric

Wow - I can see I'm going to have to make a trip to Moda Tela soon and see what they've got.

ooouuuu...fun stuff wandering around fabric stores. Thanks for asking this question.

I can see my esposo yawning already- I'll have to drop him off somewhere else to be able to spend some quality time in there.
