Mechanics in Baja

bajabass - 1-2-2012 at 09:46 AM

Hey Lee, maybe get a more reliable car???? ;D Just kidding, Happy New Year!

Loretana - 1-2-2012 at 10:42 AM

Lee,
I highly recommend Ruben for any/all repairs in Loreto. cell #613-114-6191
His English is quite good.

His shop is in a large walled compound just past the Loreto Airport turnoff on the International Highway, right side, going south. It sits alone, so you can't miss it.

Plus, he is totally reasonable, and fun to hang out with!

I totally agree he saved my bacon and my vacation. while he worked on my vehicle we took the time to explore Loreto and had a enjoyable delay in our trip:tumble::tumble:

Osprey - 1-2-2012 at 10:57 AM

Lee, you wanna take the heat for sending someone, unwitingly, to a guy who is now a bandito but was a saint/magician when first encountered?

The list, by it's existance, will necessarily exclude thousands of saint/mechanics all up and down Baja who are not represented by THE REMEMBERERS who just happen not to come forward.

A list of service providers in my village, for example, had five or six people on it that I think should be in prison and it did not have about an even number of people I would give all my keys to without at doubt or a worry.

Mulege mechanico

unbob - 1-2-2012 at 10:59 AM

In Mulege it's Señor Oscar Rodriguez Luna.

Read this thread.

His shop is just off the highway (west side) as you come into town from the north (look for 'Ray's' sign on the highway) - Oscar's shop is less than 100m off the highway.

Much too political. This thread isn't about me taking heat. I don't know any mechanics so can't endorse anyone. I bet Shari and Juan know someone in GN or nearby? THAT is the kind of endorsement I'd take if I needed a mechanic in GN. Better than asking strangers on the street.

Specific kind of mechanic? CAR AND TRUCK MECHANIC! Most people drive cars in Baja, some drive trucks. Include diesel too.

A search of mechanic and a dozen posts and I've already lost interest. I'm thinking one list of mechanics would benefit ALL NOMADS here. One thread with reputable mechanics. Personal experience or reputation. I bet Dennis knows someone in Ensenada he'd recommend.

So far, we have a mechanic in Loreto and one in Mulege.

The man who works for me is the best in this area, consensus says, but we're out here in Punta Banda.
Vicente, the mechanic, is mobile and confines his work to house calls. He avoids electrical problems unless they're really basic and won't even say the words, "automatic transmission."
Call me if you need him. U2U me for a phone number if you plan to be driving through.

vacaenbaja - 1-2-2012 at 03:38 PM

"A man has got to know his limitations" as Dirty Harry would say. I respect that a lot down there where it is often viewed
as walking away from money to be made if you don't at least hazard a wild try at something.
Much easier said than done in Baja where for better or worse, people will sometimes in the name of being helpfull get in over their heads.
I do think that a list updated often of go to mechanics along the length of the peninsula would be great.
What would also be good would be a resonable towing service if such a thing exists in case you find yourself having
to get your rig back to the border or some major town
with out having to pay an arm and a leg.

I want to post your guy's phone number here. Mobile is good! Unless you think he wouldn't want his number listed here.

Dennis how about your phone number here? Nomads should call you if they want your guy? What?

Hoping Shari and Juan will check in and someone in LP and Cabo?

Reuben in Loreto looks like my bro-in-law. This is the kind of guy I'm looking for here.

Bajahowodd - 1-2-2012 at 04:38 PM

Inasmuch as Lee lives in Pescadero, when I first read his post, I was wondering whether he was looking for his own local needs, or to create a data base up and down the peninsula.

Reading through, it does seem like the latter.

That said, for Lee and others on the bottom of the peninsula, you really cannot do better than these guys.

http://gringopages.dirxion.com/WebProject.asp?CodeId=7.4.1.1... =0&PageIndex=13&Mode=popup-single&WindowWidth=530&AdRect=32.4,402.9,361.7,174.3&WindowHeight=297&Language=enu&Archival=0#& lt; br />

About ten years ago, my son-in-law had trouble with his Toyota truck while in Cabo. He was recommended to a guy outside San Jose. Long story short, after paying this guy, the truck broke down again near Guerrero Negro. Also turns out the owner of that shop was a convicted child molester on the lam.

The other cool thing about Ruben is that he is a good machinist and has every tool imaginable. I've had him make fittings and fasteners for stuff like my laundry room German design (!) Grohe faucet.........

He repairs all manner of boat engines, he's been the "go to" guy here in LTO since the 80's. (at least that's when I met him)

Yes, there are other competent engine mechanics here in Loreto, but I know I can trust Ruben.

The only thing he doesn't like to work on is air conditioning but he's forgiven. :saint:

larryC - 1-2-2012 at 04:58 PM

I also can highly recommend Rueben in Loreto, and from what I hear from others that his son is also good mechanic.

Ruben's son has a shop on hwy 1 in town he is also a very good mechanic stays very busy he's the one that recomended me to Ruben

TonyC - 1-3-2012 at 09:05 AM

How about in the San Quintin area up to Camalu?

shari - 1-3-2012 at 09:33 AM

howdy Lee....sorry for not checking in sooner...super busy with the wedding. In case of car trouble in the Vizcaino area...Refracciones Y Accesorios DEL VALLE is the best bet for getting back on the road ...right at the bus terminal. It is across and a bit south of the original Pemex and a big big place that carries the best selection of car parts in central baja and an excellent shop...and if ya need to stay overnight, Hotel Olivia is a half a block away and great. they are very professional and I'd have work done there instead of GN.

In GN, for engine stuff, we use Chino's automotive a block south of the bus terminal..ask anyone...but as mentioned, each town has their specialties...like in Vizcaino, there is a transmission wizard...but he's slow, and GN has a 4 wheel drive guy who is fantastic...electronics guys etc...each place has special guys for special fixes. Sometimes it's best to ask the hotel receptionist or gas attendants for recommendations.

CortezBlue - 1-3-2012 at 09:58 AM

You didn't mention San Felipe, however, there is a retired Lexus mechanic Mike Hailey, that lives and operates inside of Pete's Camp just north of San Felipe.

If you go to the bar at Pete's camp anyone can tell you where to find him. His shop is just before the bar on the North side of the street, but there are no signs.

He does great work and has fixed many vehicles for me, including, rebuilding the motor in my Polaris quad

Lee - 1-8-2012 at 08:45 AM

Close to compiling a list.

Need a number/address for Jonnie's in Rosarito.

Guess Dennis won't divulge his mobile source in Ensenada.

Anyone else with connections in Ensenada?

San Quintin? La Paz? Cabo/SJ area?

Good Sam.
It says "Mexico", doesn't it?

Loretana - 1-8-2012 at 05:55 PM

Alm

Personally I think Lee is compiling a pretty useful and necessary list for those of us who drive Mexico 1 at least once a year.

Good Sam Club?? Sure, you're gonna call some alleged Good Sam participating member tow truck service when you're broken down out in the middle of Peores Nada? With no cell service?

Have you driven the Baja highway lately?

I don't think Lee has any ulterior motive other than to have a list of trusted mechanics so if a Nomad breaks down anywhere out there, they know the closest mechanic (who is not a shyster!) to call.......IMHO

Lee - 1-8-2012 at 06:48 PM

I too think a list of mechanics here would be helpful to nomads who might need help while traveling. My too political comment was a response to Osprey's questioning whether I could take heat from a nomad who might have a negative experience with a mechanic from a list I compiled.

From the info I've gotten on Reuben, for example, I can tell that this is a guy I'd trust doing business with. I use the word ''trust'' loosely here.

Got no problems with any nomads here promoting their business either. More power to them.

I'm happily retired and apolitical.

Think I"ll continue soliciting the names of mechanics before making a master list. I've never personally needed a mechanic in Baja so I'm doing OK.

I'll check around and see who I can dig up for Todos to Cabo/SJ.

Alm - 1-9-2012 at 03:23 PM

Loretana, towing call and pretty much any other call on Baja roads requires a sat phone, given current cell phone coverage there. 50 minutes card for Isatphone, for example, cost 50 bucks, valid for 2 years. Handset costs around $500. More an insurance than communication tool. Good Sam - I haven't used it for towing here, this was just a suggestion. I understand you call GS operator, not an alleged participating towing company.

I'm going with Lee's list.
I have a home in Loreto, I know the cities/towns on my route well, and I speak Spanish.

I like the idea of knowing who can figure out what that nasty noise my Jeep is making might be (just as a example) when I get to that next town.

Just sayin'.

BFS - 1-9-2012 at 04:15 PM

I would not hesitate to recommend Ramon Trasviña Leon in Todos Santos. He has done quite a bit of work for mine and various friends cars/trucks over the years and always very satsfied with his work, price and expertise. cel # 612 139-0493 he is located on camino a Punta Lobos s/n

willyAirstream - 1-13-2012 at 01:24 PM

Mulege - I would not recommend Oscar. He has "repaired" 3 locals cars here at Cuesta and none were done correctly.
Coche under the bridge is the best mechanic in town. Reliable and inexpensive. One employee speaks english.
Marcos of the auto parts store is the master auto electrical "go to guy". He takes no short cuts and backs up his work.
Gnukid has a great mechanic in La Paz, rebuilt my carb for $20 and it took him 4-5 hours.

ElCazadorAZ - 1-13-2012 at 04:33 PM

In Guerrero Negro, on the main drag, facing across and left (East) from the great taco stand in front of the Hotel Malarrimo, is a guy named Richard (not Ricardo...), speaks perfect english and is a very skilled and resourceful mechanic. The 19 year old air intake tube on my Dodge Diesel (between the turbo and the air filter box) broke on the crappy section of road (Con-Destruction) north of GN. I asked the guy at the taco stand which mechanic to use as there are a bunch of them across the street. He steered me toward Richard. On foot, with the tube in hand, I headed across the street. We looked around his spares, thinking about a splice, but since the tube is accordion style, he suggested that we cut off the broken lip where the clamp lives and grind the structural ribs enough to make a new clamping area. I said that I knew I could stretch the tube back out an inch, so we proceeded. It worked perfectly and is still on there working. I will, of course, find a new tube, but this quick fix saved my bacon (and my engine). Ask for Richard at the Taller - Mecanico across and left from the Hotel Malarrimo.

3464james - 1-13-2012 at 04:50 PM

Great idea for a list of recommended mechanics, having had my trucks rear end blow up outside of San Felipe, I would love for someone to give the name and phone number for a mechanic San Felipe to Gonzaga. Ditto for a boat mechanic. The sat phone is the only reliable phone I have used in that area.
Jim D.

In La Paz, for transmission work the guy with the open air shop next to the AA Hall on Madero. He rebuilt the tranny on my '93 Dodge Diesel 10 years ago (for $900. USD) and it's still going strong.

For all-around mechanical work I use Bobby Lozano on Oaxaca near Independencia, in the neighborhood of the old bus depot on Jalisco.

For VW's I like Tony Carballo on Oaxaca between Dominguez and Madero. Honest and reasonable.

For VW work that requires sophisticated equipment the go-to guy is Rogelio at Geraldo's VW on Madero near Allende.

For electrical work on VW's see David, Rogelio's brother, a few blocks farther south from Rogelio's shop, also on Madero.

Victor Manuel Dominguez is the mechanic at "Taller Marquez" in Primo Tapia. He is 3 doors south of Pemex Station/Cop shop at KM 43, just off the Primo Tapia/Cantamar exit. (661) 616-8342.

During my mini-drama last week,(this thread on Nomad), he saved my bacon by getting a new rear end for my 1989 Jeep Cherokee and installed it professionally.

All works great, including the various 4WD modes. One day to get parts in Tijuana, one day to install. There is also an auto parts store adjacent with a machine shop.

LEE, THANKS for putting this list together. It will come in handy for stranded Nomads along Hwy1. cheers

There is a fellow in El Pescadero by the name of Richard who seems to be held in high regard by the region's expats. Bet anything that the folks in "Baja Beans" the coffee place can fill in his last name and cell #. He speaks Ingles.

Munchie in Punta Banda

bajadock - 3-3-2012 at 08:20 AM

Ok, he is 7 miles west of hwy1 on carretera La Bufadora, but, his trophy case indicates he may know a few things about vehicles. His shop looks like many in Mexico. Old vehicles and parts are everywhere and a couple of dogs complete the scene.

If you wander back behind a couple of old VW bugs, you find the trophy wall. "Munchie"(Ramon Fernandez) is all over the record books in SCORE racing his VW bugs in Class 11.

He is thorough, inexpensive and calls when he discovers other problems on your vehicle. 646-154-2624 Campo LaJolla, hill side, south across street from church.

Munchie and team are prepping for San Felipe 250 next week, so his wrenching will be limited next 10 days.

Hi Lee, This is Don. I was in G Negro in need of some mechanical/welding work on the airstream and looked for Richard across from Malarrimos and Oscars out on the Hwy north of town. We need a little better description on the locations. There is a shop across and left of Malarrimos. It was closed when we were there. Oscars does not exist at the location described. Searching for Oscars, I did find a good welder approx in the area. Chino Gutierrez 615-155-96-22 is fairly new to G Negro. He has a full shop w/ milling machine, lathe and other machinery. He specializes in off road vehicles. He welded/repaired the steps to airstream and it cost $250p. Chino speaks 70% english (his description). We had a nice conservation. His grandfather was Japanese, and he said the Mexicans refer to all Asians as China so he got the nickname Chino and it stuck. He also related a story of two gringo off roaders who came to him w/a broken spindle on the off road vehicle. He milled a new part and worked until 11pm to get them on the road, and his reward was they would only pay him 1/2 his asking price. Ugly Americans.

I'd add a guy on MX 19 at Ocampo road in Todos Santos. Don't know his name but his shop is on the left side of the 19 as you head north, just before the intersection of 19 and Ocampo. He replaced my fuel pump once and was extremely fair with his prices and he was super honest (I had to store my car there for a week for which he charged nothing). I would go back to that guy in a heartbeat.

Mechanics in Baja? Plenty of 'em. Every town has at least one or two. The bigger the town, the more mechanics to choose from.

This is a handy thread considering I am in need of a mechanic right now :) I need to get a steering box brought down from the states and installed on my '84 Landcruiser HJ60.

I'm in Ensenada. I am pretty sure I could drive a bit to get to a good mechanic if the road isn't too tough.

Asking around and visiting mechanics here hasn't given me much confidence. I'd like to go to someone recommended by a Nomad if possible ...

From
http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=52062#pid6087...

Before traveling the distanced dusty roads of Baja....do run your truck through a good ol spot check for mechanical issues that may need fix'in. I did. Radiator overflow hose replaced. New complete brake work. New tires. General diagnostic.

Hell....I could had flown to Tulume for this sort of money!

Outside of Mexicali.....squeak.
And then there was more squeak.
Not enough? Lets add grind. Then real grinding!

By the time I got to San Felipe....the brakes were 90% gone. The Sacramento car repair messed up big time. Some how.
Now in Campos Ocotillo....I wondered what hundreds I'll be giving up. I get a "good" recommendation from Gloria, our neighbor. "He is very honest, speaks English, .....I am very happy with this mechanic"says Gloria. The next morning I follow her in.

Serious issues, and no parts avail. "Come back tomorrow a.m. and I'll have it up and running by 5" says the mechanic.

Back home now and Chuck from the San Felipe Food Bank stops by. A Nomad here that goes by the name of CDB. Offers help in use of a car. Wow. Then later Lee of the BN name Baja.BBQ comes by. Offers more help. End of the day, Ron swings by and tells be that he'll be driving in behind me to drop off the truck the next day.....and to pick me up! Ron is BN's akshadow .

Next day is here. Car parts are in. WHOA! I cant get a price on cost repairs from this guy...but what's the hell. All day I am thinking 5oo-8oo buckaroos. I'll have to call DavidK and ask him if he wants to buy my ownership of Shell Island...to pay for the repairs. Cash David...cash!

4:30 pm Judgment Day. May the Gods have mercy on me.
$200.00!!!!!!!!!!! I thought my hearing aid was whispering false numbers to me! $200.00 And the truck worked perfectly....in fact...better than ever. I gave him an extra $40.00 to buy dinner out... for him and family.

His English is quite good.

His shop is in a large walled compound just past the Loreto Airport turnoff on the International Highway, right side, going south. It sits alone, so you can't miss it.

Plus, he is totally reasonable, and fun to hang out with!

I've used Ruben for years, he's great! Not so good on the new electronics but old style blacksmith work is his field. Older engines, springs, transmissions, suspensions, welding, Rubens your man. He'll even look at your inboard engine of your boat. If his gate is closed just park because he doesn't stray too far, he'll be back soon.

Seconded! I just spent the afternoon hanging around his shop after I couldn't figure out why my starter solenoid was crapping out. Turns out I had half a cup of muddy/sludgy/greasy water trapped inside.

Anyhow, he took it apart, cleaned everything up, put it back together and a took care of a few other small things for ~$50. He's an old school mechanical wizard, plenty of good stories and he's got a lot of cool projects in his shop.

BFS - could you give me a better idea of where this guy is in La Paz? A major cross street reference or which 'colonia' he is in would be helpful. Can't find Callejon 1E San Antonio y Miraflores on my street map or even on google earth - it sent me to Peru! Thanks!

BFS - 9-25-2012 at 01:44 PM

Sure,
It is Colonia Los Olivos very near the "Alta Tension", so heading south on 5 de Febrero pass immigration and go all the way until it ends at Alta Tension. Turn right here and go a few blocks to San Antonio. You will see a small sign for the shop on your right that says Taller direccion hidraulicas. It 1 block in from this point on callejon 1.
Suerte!

I have a wonderful mechanic in Ensenada. I had some really severe problems with my heating coil leaking inside my car and my clutch went at the same time. If any of you know about a heating coil replacement, they have to disassemble the whole dashboard, it is a labor intensive job. The replacement heating coil turned out to be defective, and the mechanic fixed it again with absolutely no charge. The parts and labor for both jobs was a little over $400 American. In the States it would have run me over $1500. He also had the car detailed for no extra charge. Everything this guy does is top notch and professional. When I get back to Ensenada in a few weeks I will post his picture and contact information.

Any new additions to this list? TJ to Cabo/San Jose?

fish101 - 3-3-2014 at 12:25 PM

Ruben and his son, FILI , have switched garages. Fili is not in the large walled compound where Ruben used to be and Fili is as good as his Father ever was.. Ruben is still doing some work, but nothing major. Also, if you need any welding done while in Loreto, Fili is the one that can do it. I would recommend Fili for mechanical and welding. Fili's old garage is located in MiraMar on Highway 1 just before entering Loreto..

willyAirstream - 3-3-2014 at 01:09 PM

And Fili is located in his fathers place which is 1 km south of the airport, west side of the highway. Look for a very long block wall and large gate. Fili does mig and tig and has a plasma cutter, as well as pipie/tube benders. He is a pro welder, engine re builder and skilled mechanic. His assistant is also highly skilled. 5 stars outa 5.

Thanks for your help, willyAirstream..You are so very correct about Fili..

Bump, Looking for a mecanico in Cabo San Lucas. Have 1997 Nissan pathfinder hesitating on acceleration 2000RPM+ only when the A/C is on.
Guessing it may be fuel filter or a spark plug. Trying to avoid the dealership.

I have a good mecanico in La Mision (between Roso/Ensenada).

Mark Dastoli has fixed both my vehicles at good value, 1/2 USA cost.

I used Ramon in Todos Santos for a very similar problem. Ended up being a failing fuel pump. Ramon took a day to diagnose the issue, which entailed removing the fuel tank in order to verify after ruling out all other systems. I had to fly back for the part (1990 range rover) and he kept my car, FULL of my gear, in his shop safe. 3 days later I was back with the part. He installed it, and charged me $150 out the door. Very honest guy, great mechanic.

3 years ago I had a mechanic here in Punta Banda check all the hoses, belts, plugs, etc. on my Yukon before my trip to Canada. He also told me that the pressure on my fuel pump was a little low so I told him to go ahead and replace it.

He got an aftermarket one from a parts store in Ensenada. Don't remember the cost but it went out on my trip home with only 2500 miles on it. Had to get towed into GMC dealer where they out in a genuine GMC part for around $600 and gave me the failed one to return to the mechanic. I told him what happened and asked him to return it for a refund.

About a month later I asked him about my refund and he told me that they had given HIM a credit for next time he bought parts from them. When I asked how that would work as far as getting me a refund he said "No, that is my credit and not yours. His name is Chuy and his shop is in La Jolla camp.

CoachWorthy - 8-11-2014 at 05:14 PM

OK, I found a decent one in San Jose del Cabo, Lomas del Rosarito. I had a spark plug fail and they replaced all the plugs(was due) and the part that sends signal to plugs (ignition control module?) and a fuel filter. $200

They specialize in Nissan and Toyota. Car is running fine now, rough idle at times, but I hope the computer adjusts it out. It seems fixed and price seemed about right. Used NGK plugs. Showed me the old parts.

Since this thread is recently active thought I would give a shout out to Bukovecz Km 136 Carretera Mulege.

Recently gave them dumb blonde carte blanche to fix cooling system and what I thought was brakes. Got an emailed estimate before they started work, no money up front taken for parts when offered, new water pump and wheel bearings (wasn't brakes after all) and labour charge was equivalent to about one hour in Canada. Plus instructions to bring it in again if I was not happy with the work, old parts shown to me. I highly recommend these guys.

In the process of using "Tavo" now. Younger, sharp, great English. Transmission problem in Isuzu Trooper, will follow up. RT

Gustavo, Todos Santos

hdn2mx - 3-31-2015 at 11:17 PM

Well it took about 8 weeks, thats right, 8 weeks. Although Tavo did tear apart the tranny to my Trooper twice. He missed a broken ring the first time and even after the second time, it took a while to figure there was a hairline crack that he couldn't see. But he did find it and had to order a new part from LaPaz and now thats it back together it runs way quieter than it ever has. The price stayed the same and he did finish the job and apoligized on how long it took. Also, he speaks good English which helped me a lot!

Gulliver - 4-1-2015 at 11:21 PM

Just to amplify what AirstreamWillys has said about Daniel and Pac in Mulege, a great deal of their business is bike and quads. They are active off road riders and know the area in case you need tips on roads in the hills West of here. I have nearly killed myself trying to stay with them though!

I had them replace an exhaust manifold gasket on my old Ford 351W in a van and service the automatic transmission. I provided the transmission filter and oil. The manifold removal is an AWFUL job on these engines. The bolts always break off for me. Daniel worked them all free without breaking a one.

Total bill, MX$1210. I about choked. 80 bucks for a day and a half of hard work. Peanuts.

This is a great list. Glad to see Fili in Loreto on it.

Gulliver - 4-1-2015 at 11:25 PM

There is a good bicycle shop in Loreto. And Llantera Madraso in Loreto saved a pretty knackered motorcycle tube for me.

I'll recommend Martin in Bahia de Los Angeles as a boat mechanic. Got me going three separate times.

Ken Cooke - 4-2-2015 at 01:01 PM

I recommend Terry James of Playas de Tijuana. 619-408-4509. He installed my oil pump yesterday, and did a thorough job on my Jeep.

WHOA !! KEN

captkw - 4-2-2015 at 06:22 PM

is this the new "Rubican" you recently got ??? oil pumps seldom, if ever fail..oil pump drives, yes !! and worn main and rod bearings will lower oil pressure..but oil pump failure is almost unheard of ???:?:

This is my new RUBICON that I bought in 2003. The oil pump was questionable as it was presented to me by Terry. Now, the Jeep starts on the first try. But the oil pressure gauge is still acting up. I will take it back to TERRY JAMES of Playas Tijuana again when I have some additional time to do so.

Thanks KEN

captkw - 4-2-2015 at 09:27 PM

Talk about a Fast reply !! I think you might find that the sender/wireing or gauge to be the problem...low oil pressure is almost,,almost never the pump...have him ck with a "outside" unit/gauge first...simple to do.and first action IMO.......BTW when I get a time (ya right) Im installing a hydro boost brake system on a 68 jeep commando "crawler" that you would love to see/drive with 33' rims w/beadlocks he needs some stopping power...Ya Think.... LOL keep us informed.. ...will look forward to your update....K&T

Ken Cooke - 4-3-2015 at 07:15 AM

Terry in Playas de Tijuana didn't have the correct fittings to install my oil pressure gauge. An OEM oil sending unit was installed in July. Terry believes the problem is electrical. I'll keep you posted on any developments.

Gibberish is fine and since the OP thinks this is a ''great thread,'' maybe nomads might know a mechanic down South to help the stranded tourist and traveler.

Wonder if Reuben is well in Loreto.

Any leads, Nomads?

Loretana - 8-24-2019 at 09:22 PM

Lee, Ruben is well, but has swapped shop locations with his Son, Fili.

Ruben is of the mind that if he doesn't like you, or your vehicle, he'll tell you to take it to Fili.

Lucky for me, he still works on my 1990 Chevy Sierra pick up and my Jeep Cherokees. He's sort of "retired". ;)

RocketJSquirrel - 8-25-2019 at 09:14 AM

Dennis recommended Vicente in the Ensenada, particularly Punta Banda/Cantu/Maneadero area.

Vicente is a super nice guy, basic English, but patient to understand what you are trying to say in English or bad Spanish.

He is mobile only, works mostly by appointment. Super honest and very modestly priced.

Vicente is at 646-123-1750 Doesn't answer his phone on Sundays.

Someone else also recommended Monchie who is located inside Campo La Jolla on the La Bufadora road. Excellent work at very reasonable prices. Known by everyone to do fair and honest work. Don't know his phone. I just drive over there.

I like that there are so many decent mechanics here. In the USA, you can't trust even one of them. They are all ready to rip you off as quickly as they can, for as much as they can.

Okay - there are probably a few honest ones. Just haven't met them yet.

There are many mechanics recommended on the Ensenada Expats Facebook site.
