Skeet/Loreto - 5-30-2012 at 05:46 PM

Doug I have been on this board for 10 years. Had a great time until about 2 years ago. When the Mcfez, Goat, Joe bunch got on and ruined it.

Now you have become a "Cheater" selling my Information to other sources, I feel sorry for You to have to become a "Cheater..

please remove me from this Board.

Skeet/loreto

I just checked the Las Vegas book odds on this one.

thebajarunner - 5-30-2012 at 06:01 PM

No bookie in LV will touch the odds on having Skeet stay away.

But, just in case, hasta la vista, Sr. Skeeter......

Bajafun777 - 5-30-2012 at 07:37 PM

I hate to see anyone leave this site or become so intense on issues that they are angry ever time they get on this site. Life is too short and for those of us that have had close calls from "The Man Upstairs," well I for one do not want to waste a minute. Better to enjoy every day than regret the lost fun times especially in our journey to pass over to the other side!

Everyone on this board be it a new poster or one that been here many years have some pieces of the puzzle of life to share. If that piece of the puzzle is of Baja, Mainland or other countries of interest I for one want to know about it or share in one of the stories about them living the vida loca,LOL. Take Care & Travel Safe----"No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777

Ateo - 5-30-2012 at 09:10 PM

Enjoy your future Skeet/Loreto. I wish you and all humans the best!

David K - 5-30-2012 at 10:34 PM

Skeet... it is not Doug, it is the Internet... 'it' 'sees' whatever you do online. There is no other Baja forum as active as this one... However, do as you wish... a few have also got tired of fighting with others here and went over to Baja Gringo's (Ron's) forum 'TalkBaja.com'.

Mulegena - 5-31-2012 at 05:52 AM

Also, in your Control Panel / Options each registered Nomad member has the option to list personal information such as email and whether or not to show you're actively present on-line.

Please don't go away, Skeet (oops, i just wrote Sweet, hehehe!)

Skeet won't understand til it's been explained about twenty times. Then, it will fall off the horizon of his memory banks and all will be as it was.

And everyone else will also forget or at least won't give it much thought.

Skeet,

No one cares what you look at on the internet--- it is your business. Just remember that Google is watching and keeping track of you AND everyone else.

Why are you all leaving notes for Skeet?

thebajarunner - 5-31-2012 at 08:38 AM

He left, remember?
You don't suppose he might be lurking about.....
nahhhhh, he left

never to return

See ya Skeet! As another long-timer who now lurks more than participates you're one of the few that brings a smile to my face no matter what you say.

vgabndo - 5-31-2012 at 10:11 AM

Of all the one-sided, bizarre, closed-minded, controversial, judgmental and otherwise not very productive stuff that has appeared on this forum in the past two years, I'm here to say that Skeet's name was associated with a lot of it. Whether it was a fantasy about the fishing being as good as ever, or condemning as evil anyone educated in the California school system, Skeet's radical attitudes have colored most of what he has had to say.

The problem as I see it with folks who seem to operate mostly from their "lizard brain" is an unwillingness, or inability to see more than one side to a debate. For them the discussion is settled by a primitive fight or flight reaction. If they can't kill it, they run away.

I'm feeling that since Skeet can't seem to kill the 21st. century, he's choosing to "publicly" run away. (sort-of )

I respect those who can prove me wrong and I am grateful to learn from them. Naturally, I wish Skeet was more like me! Surprise Surprise.

DianaT - 5-31-2012 at 10:13 AM

I think Skeet will leave Nomads just as soon as Rick Perry is elected President of the US and Skeet can follow him to Washington DC ---

DENNIS - 5-31-2012 at 10:16 AM

When Skeet stops being Skeet, it will be a sad day.

DanO - 5-31-2012 at 11:45 AM

It's all you nekkid HIPPIE commie DOPERs who chased him away! Sniff.

However, as I've said before, I believe that Skeeter is a fictional construct, sort of like a Texas panhandle Borat. Because he never existed in reality, he cannot leave.

LaPazGringo - 5-31-2012 at 12:08 PM

As an admin on numerous automotive forums, I'll say that his nonsense would have been tolerated on none of them. Not for a second do I believe he's going to stay away but it'd sure be nice for this community to experience a week without his bile-spewing personality.

It's difficult for me to imagine how Skeet could affect anybody so negatively. Arn't you kinda giving him too much power while relinquishing your own by not going around his posts?
Nobody has to read his stuff. It's not a requirement here.

What in the world are you talking about, Dennis? You can't think of anything legitimately insulting and negative to say so you just make some BS up? It's such a pleasure being around people like you.

Anyone remember way back in the usergroups days when there was a .kill function to mute anyone you wanted to?

Since I was the one that posted the pointed query as to motive and plan, I too will wait, in perpetuity, for the answer,

Much like I awaited an answer on how to make an easy fortune on peso speculation...

But, he is too much of a 'drama queen' to stay away,
stay tuned for more of his simplistic views on life as he sees it.

Not bad DENNIS. Use the polish on the need to be a bit more subtle. I'll save you some time, here's the appropriate definition:

Definition of subtle: delicate, elusive.

Well, I don't know the Skeet you guys are putting down with glee, but there again I don't go to the Off Topic forum here... and I have been told that the Skeet from the Dark Side lives there...?!

Met Skeet at one of the first Pyramid Resort Book Signings, and he was a very pleasant amigo...

RIP Skeet, like a hemorrhoid I will miss you and Rick Perry too!

Even though I am crushed I will somehow carry on with my selfish, socialist, ignorant, Berkeley learnin', homosexual loving, welfare queen ways. I will raise a toast to you on occasion with a strong shot of bong water as I try to dope out my LIBERAL mind and carry on with corrupting the lazy youth of America.

I have learned from my dialogues with you that I am a lazy, atheistic, socialist, immoral, degenerate slacker who never worked an honest day in my life and have provided a terrible model for children.

I know I am a better man for having engaged in dialogue with you and now am a changed, god fearing, hard working stiff who punches cows and even have my own stump cow to keep me company on those hard, long days and nights on the range making an honest living under gods great sky away from all the pollution and vice of the big city. You have been a true inspiration to me.

Thank you for all of your sage advice and wisdom about how the world, except yours, is going to hell. I have headed your warning and sworn of socialism, drugs except whiskey of course, and I now bible thump rather than read all those complicated books I used to pollute my mind with. I now chase fillies, and herd cows like the best of 'em. Damn it feels good to be up on the range and my favorite heifer. I can now spit over my chin rather than all over it. I don't wash my jeans any more, just stand 'em in the corner and call them over in the morning when I need them. I now hit back first at anyone who doesn't seem to be packing. I love looking at my new sinewy body and wonder why everyone can't be like me. A pox on all their houses, I am just going to ride off into the sunset.

No more bedtime stories ..........

I get blamed for the downfall of Skeet's life here at the BajaNomads!

Well Skeet......I KNOW that you are reading this, and since you used my name here in a VERY negative way (again).....my turn to retort.

Had you not been such a racist little man that slammed topics with off the wall racist under tones.............(and outright racist remarks using the word N******* months ago in a Off Topics), I wouldn't had been so hard on you. Off Topics is NOT a place where anyone can be a racist against gays to blacks to Mexicans.

Rules apply there in Off Topics....such as rules apply to real life , buddy!

Ask Ken here if he liked your low remarks. Ask my Grand kids too while you are at it. Yes...I do have the right to choose what I am reading....I also have the right to protest such outright... blatant ...racist remarks.

Other than those disgraceful postings............you postings were GREAT reads! I loved the Rattlesnake Topic. The plenty of fish in the Sea of Cortez topic was a good one too.

I never knew about the N word. I am the last to scream about political correctness, but that's virtually unforgivable. It's 2012, there's no place for that word.

Cypress - 6-6-2012 at 10:16 AM

Did you read what I just got done posting? Using the N word is way out of the realm of the whole "political correctness" debate. I can hardly think of anything more offensive or ignorant than using that word in the year 2012. It's totally disgusting and inexcusable. If a person uses that word, they're no friend of mine and it's clear evidence of a disturbed individual. Maybe I'm more sensitive than most cause I lived in TN and Alabama for years and got my fill of ignorant trailer trash who are fascinated by that word.

Cypress - 6-6-2012 at 10:51 AM

LaPazGringo, You punched your political correct card. Feel better? By the way, I know a lot of people that live in trailers, "trash" isn't a good word to describe them. Most of 'em are good, hard-working people. They aren't living in "Public Housing", which is politically correct and they're trying to improve their situation in life. But, it's politically correct to call people living in trailers "trash"? And you call them "ignorant"?

You got it....and ya know what? That's exactly the way I feel when I hear the word, "Gringo."
I'll just stop right there and give up the stage to you so we can hear all the big differences in the words.

By the way....... you should have hung out in better bars. Educated people don't so often use that "N-Word" out loud.

There's a big difference in people who live in trailers and trailer trash. Thanks for your opinion though! It means allot to me.

vgabndo - 6-6-2012 at 12:39 PM

In the field of Skeeterology, I've always had a question about the two people who posted under that name. There have always been a certain percentage of posts which were properly spelled, punctuated, and demonstrating a good control of the language. I remember thinking "who the hell wrote this for him". My sense is that when this occurred, there was no attempt to "dumb down" any part of the post. If the real Skeet could do that, then most of the posts were by a guy who was trying to appear ignorant, and occasionally forgot.

Cypress - 6-6-2012 at 12:44 PM

vgabndo, It's not that complicated.;D

vgabndo - 6-6-2012 at 12:51 PM

Like schizophrenology. Defining multiple personalities by feeling lumps on their heads?

mcfez - 6-6-2012 at 01:12 PM

So what I am hearing from you is this..........."It's okay to use the "N" word at any given time or place".

Let's see you use that word here in the next post you do.................

wessongroup - 6-6-2012 at 02:32 PM

Yeah, but ............

David K - 6-6-2012 at 02:34 PM

Who said anything about moderating... how about manners, friendliness, humor? Just trying to be a good citizen of Baja Nomad should prevent the need for moderating...

comitan - 6-6-2012 at 02:38 PM

Moderating by any other name is still moderating!!!

David K - 6-6-2012 at 02:50 PM

It would be nice to see the many many Nomads who have left here because of the amount of rudeness, return... As it is, without any common sense moderating to keep things civil, we will continue to loose members. Only the few of us die hard Baja Nomads remain with a bunch of 'silent' members (lurkers) who would otherwise join in the conversation if it weren't for the fear of being attacked here.

I hope that people will stay or join because this is the #1 source for Baja information, discussion, photos and news. Doug... we hope you aren't giving up or tired of the place.

Cypress - 6-6-2012 at 02:54 PM

And the "N" word?

comitan - 6-6-2012 at 03:06 PM

DK If I understand your post, you are saying that the people are leaving because of the forum moderating.(Moderator) and that we need people like you and others to help with the moderating.

David K - 6-6-2012 at 03:14 PM

Nope, not even close to what I said... Rather than an army of moderators as some forums have, how about moderation yourself?

I (as a member here) am simply asking for some self control... We all can get mad, or say things in the heat of the moment, but if we act like family, we get over it and get on with life.

Self moderating means to remove nasty or unkind/ personal attacks... as Doug can't be here all the time... Keep it a friendly Baja camp, for everyone who comes to have fun, learn and play nice.

comitan - 6-6-2012 at 03:19 PM

DK It sure seems to me you are making proposals beyond just member status!

vgabndo - 6-6-2012 at 03:24 PM

I'm guessing that if a new visitor to Nomad, unless he was looking for a place in Baja called Doug, would not open this thread. We've all just joined in the intramural pot shot-ing at a self-made target.

This is a diverse community. This is part of the mix. And I don't doubt for a second that should the call come, every one of these jousters would drop their sticks and try to find a way to help anyone in need just as Nomads always have. It is tear-jerking amazing, the generosity of the folks on this board. It really is more than just a place to get Baja questions answered.

Even up here in the Alta. Nomads have a Green Angel on I-5 between Redding and Medford. I'm in the book.

They called me the "WHatt Boy" and I was chairman of the deacon board.

But it was great fun, and an extraordinary learning experience for me, and for them...

Your point being that therefore it's perfectly acceptable for anyone who hates black people to use the term to revile them. Listen, I'm not the least bit interested in debating anyone who promotes for such spew. Especially malicious, antagonistic old farts who hang around here sowing bitterness every chance they get...

What's your point?? I don't use this word, nor am I ignorant enough to find it acceptable.

Cypress - 6-7-2012 at 04:49 AM

DanO, I condone "hate speech"? Hide behind the PC curtain? Smilies are creepy? Hope you're feeling better now.;D;D

Glad to see that there are other BN members that see this issue the way I see it.

Time to get pass the hate.

It might have just been what it was .... funny as hell...

LaWanda Page ... one funny lady... IMHO

Cypress - 6-7-2012 at 12:54 PM

Did she use the "N" word? Was it funny? Did you laugh?

LaPazGringo - 6-7-2012 at 12:54 PM

Where's the funny in that video? It has a black woman using the N word. Hilarious. There are a million funny clips from Sanford and Son on YouTube and we had to post that one? This thread is disgusting.

Cypress - 6-7-2012 at 01:20 PM

No, it isn't digusting, it's silly. All these nomads trying to punch their race card? Punch it! Heck, stick it in your pocket and save it for a serious situation. Or maybe you can find some other place to stick it?

vgabndo - 6-7-2012 at 01:23 PM

At the time Sanford and Son hit the air it seems it was clear to all the folks I hung out with that throwing the N word all over the place was being done to take the sting out of it. Archie Bunker was a completely disgusting caricature but he helped take the sting out of what had been traditional Christian American hate speech. Much more recently the technique found it's way into the GBL? community when gay people started calling themselves queers. It helped soften the impact of the word when used in hate.

Interestingly, to be an atheist is to be mistrusted, lied about, and indeed hated more than any homosexual or person of color. We just don't have to show it on the outside, so don't have to live it. Americans have made atheist a dirty word filled with insane connotations. It is actually the absence of an act, and is akin to being an "afairy" if one doesn't believe in fairies.

I like humanist best right now. Skeptic and free thinker also help to keep the hatred of atheists from my door.

No, it's disgusting. Unless you're from Northern Idaho and think hate speech is cool, funny and harmless and you criticize those who choose not to revile others with ignorance and racism. People who don't like the N word are playing the race card? You have issues, man. Just keeping adding this>> smilie and it'll make everyone who disagrees with you seem so foolish, won't it?

Perry'
I too favor a Humanist Philosophy. Skeptic and free thinker too. Would consider myself more of an Agnostic (Not totally though. I sense the presence of a superior being).

My disgust with Evangelistic Christians began with me and my brother being thrown into a boys ranch by my parents for four years. The operators of the ranch were psychologically and physically abusive, and hypocritical. They ran the ranch with child labor. They burned us with cigarettes. The beat us with hoses and sticks. If we didn't eat or like our food they force fed us garbage until we vomited. They forced us to read the bible and punished us if we asked questions.

I learned quickly how to think for myself. The difference between right and wrong was clear to me because I knew these people were evil and that they were the worst sinners. I figured out early on that The Bible is ridiculous. That notion was validated later as I studied The Bible as Literature at San Francisco State University. Most of the other kids on the ranch either died early or went to prison. I came through it stronger, with more resolve and a verifiable history of responsibility.

Evangelists and Right Wing Social Conservatives are joined at the hip, so I have no respect for them either.

You say "We just don't have to show it on the outside, so don't have to live it." I must disagree with that if you post on the internet, and in this forum too. I have been stalked by one in particular, threatened, had my family researched, my credit app pulled by phonying a purchase agreement through a business they were operating (I guess that is how they did it). You are held accountable for anything you say that is political by some vicious haters.

Now, I am 74. Two years ago I was diagnosed with incurable Lymphoma/Leukemia and so I don't care. (Monsanto and Dow Chemical will probably kill you too). This is the first time I have revealed this on BajaNomad. I didn't want to give mrbillm the joy of my condition. By his absence, he may have predeceased me (which does not give me joy, by the way) .

I am sure that the stress of the years in which I have been coexisting in this world with hater Wingnuts have caused the stress that contributed to my cancer.

They no longer intimidate me, but I have lost interest in playing the debate game here. It is the Zen sound of one hand m*****b**ing. Virtually all of my logic, parody and humor is lost here. It is tiresome and I have no desire to be a crusader or to change their minds. They have to live with themselves and that is punishment enough.

When you are confronted with your own mortality, living day by day in the moment, there are loftier and more important ways to spend my time and psychic energy.

The BajaNomad is still he best source of information for all things Baja. There are many interesting and helpful Nomads here contributing much of value. I will continue to learn and contribute only if it is what I know to be true by experience.

Just hang in there..

David K - 6-7-2012 at 06:00 PM

Tony, please do enjoy what you do have and remember all the joy that family, friends, fishing, and some other f- things have given you in your life!

Do continue to share your thoughts and findings with us, and while you and I have not seen eye to eye on many issues, I think we have at least respected each other for what we believe to be right.

This Nomad family (while it may be disfunctional) still can be counted on in times of need or at least to lend an ear (or would it be an 'eye'?).

Pompano - 6-7-2012 at 06:07 PM

Tony, I hear you, mi amigo.

vgabndo - 6-7-2012 at 06:55 PM

Thanks for that Tony. I too came out after I got cancer. There just comes a time when there is no point in pretending to respect someone's delusion. It cost me for sure, but I have easily gotten along without those few people in my life.

I can only do my best to live in congruence with my principles, to hold myself accountable for my failures, and consciously look at what I made more important than keeping a promise to myself or another. None of us is getting out of this alive. We were doomed from the outset! My goal is just to be able to look any man in the eye without apology for anything; least of all a belief that every embryo when born becomes a devil possessed "original sinner" who is beyond human redemption. I disagree that this is a good way to start a good clean atheist kid on what turns out to be a very short trip to the grave.

Sunday School is child abuse, and the effect on American children's achievement in the sciences, compared to non-Christian countries, is obvious. Students who've been taught to disrespect the scientific method, and who must overcome outright lies they've had drilled into them, in order to function in the real world later, have a measurable disadvantage.

A recent Gallop Poll let us see that 46% of adult Americans hold the delusional belief that homo sapiens was created, with no previous evolution, less than 10,000 years ago. Incredibly, when you take out the 30 something percent who believe that evolution had God's help, only about 15% of Americans accept Darwinian evolution by natural selection as truth.

Mexico was only just a little bit smarter.

The picture is far less depressing in many parts of Europe.

If you don't already know him, I recommend talks by Daniel Dennett on Youtube. His mind sends mine flying. Neil Degrasse Tyson gives me physics envy, but he makes it sort of understandable too.

Do I remember correctly that you are a musician?

My best...

Ateo - 6-7-2012 at 07:08 PM

Toneart, I really agreed with your post and was stoked you said what you did, except for hearing that you were diagnosed with incurable L & L. I wish you the best. Keep telling it like it is and keep on living. I think we only get one chance at this, and I think you're doing your best. Always loved your avatar by the way.

First of all, any one who has met Tony knows that he in no way looks like he is 74, nor does he act like he is 74 and he will win this battle.

Amigo, we will see you again soon.

toneart - 6-7-2012 at 10:43 PM

Thank you all for your heartfelt comments. I have had many good conversations with most of you and none of you are on my s-list. What a great community of Nomads!

I was diagnosed two years ago but have not submitted to conventional treatment until now. I am giving it a good fight and actually feel pretty good. I have never suffered symptoms but the blood work and CT Scans say all is not well.

I had a 2nd opinion consultation with a Lymphoma Specialist Hematologist/Oncologist at UCSF. Until then I was going to only do alternative treatment. This doctor gave me two hours and had all my pathologies redone there at the UCSF Hospital. He was thoroughly prepared having committed my whole file to memory. He just exuded confidence! He came up with a combination of a Monoclonal Antibody and Chemotherapy. It will be a six month course. I started treatment with that doctor's concoction two weeks ago here at The Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and it is going well.

I have done lots of research and have put myself on a special Cancer diet and I am getting lots of exercise with weights and riding my bicycle. I am in great shape as I have always taken care of myself. Still feel like I did in my 30s and 40s.

The weather here in the Sierras is beautiful. Spring is all abloom and the temperature is in the mid 70s to low 80s. No humidity.

Still playing my trumpet with friends. Just jamming. Not working professionally any more. Ironically, three of the guys I play music with are MDs. I am really getting great personal guidance from them as well. One of them is the local Hospice Physician. One of them has played professionally in the past and the others are better than you might expect, as time would allow.

I now return this string back to the Skeet topic.

Saludos, Amigos!

You all can go back to the Skeet topic after I express my sentiment that life truly sucks. Tony, hang in there man, your voice means a lot to me and, I suspect, others on this board.

Mexitron - 6-8-2012 at 06:36 AM

Sorry to hear toneart, but sounds like you have the right attitude---here's to more years to come.

mcfez - 6-8-2012 at 07:15 AM

Tony................
You know that McFez thinks highly of you.

It must be all about positive thinking about life....that keeps us all going in life.........and you have plenty of it! We haven't talked since last Xmas season..........and here you are, still being positive my friend.

The San Felipe house is yours to use at any time for any length of time.......you know that........just don't disturb the neighbors with the loud horns :-) Let us, the Nomads, know what we can do for you .......should any need arise.

Regards to my favorite BN!

Tone: You are one of the people on this board who's views I appreciate. I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis and Vga is right on the mark, as usual. I have looked the reaper in the face too and know that this ain't practice! I also think that Dylan was right "he who ain't busy being born is busy dieing'" Each day is a precious gift and what we can choose is our attitude toward that day. There isn't any yesterday and no tomorrow, what we have is NOW. This has always been one of the great things that I appreciate about Mexico and Mexicans, most know how to live in the NOW and play!
When I leave I want my mind to be open to whatever comes. In my life experience an open mind and heart is the best preparation for whatever comes.
