el palomar

I will be going to camp at guadalupe cyn. next week. In the baja almanac there looks to be a jeep trail leeding to a place called el palomar about 25 miles south. anyone driven to this site and is it worth the drive? what is el palomar?

It is an abandoned ranch requiring 4wd to get to. Beyond, less than a mile, just past the end of the road, are hot pools that will require cleaning out due to little use. The road is on the left side of the canyon (past the corral).

are you moving rocks or looking for something?

John, I have listened to two people that were on that trip. Neal is laughingly leading his friends into a trap!:lol:

They are 'road building' so the non-Toyotas in the group can get closer to the hot springs in Palomar.

Directions to Rancho El Palomar from Canyon Guadalupe ?driveway?:

Start: 0.0 Junction of main north/south dirt road and signed dirt road west to Canyon
Guadalupe. Go south on main road.

6.0 Continue straight (south) on road not on Baja Almanac, do not turn left to Ejido Guardines de la Patria.

XX Cross 200 foot sand wash shortly after passing ?Keep out? signed ranch driveway on right.

XX Cross half mile wide sand wash of lower Canyon Palomar. Road will continue south near (but out of sight of) east bank of Canyon Palomar.

20-21 (approximately) Turn right to go to corral in Canyon Palomar, and continue past it (no tracks maybe) until you pick up the road on the left side of canyon.

24-25 (approximately) Rancho Palomar. The main tracks are frequently bottomless mud due to the springs feeding this palm grove. It is seasonally used as a line shack. Do not disturb. Continue past, and cross rocky Canyon Palomar (picture) in a half mile. Continue a half mile to end of road. Observe concrete hot tub over edge of arroyo. It needs a few hundred feet of hose to get water from the hot spring up canyon on right bank. The concrete tubs at the spring will probably be filled with palm fronds and mud.
