Canadians heading south this winter can expect more for their Canadian dollar, that is unless the price of everything goes up as fast as the Canadian
dollar climbs.
I'm curious as to how much the currency conversion rates are in Baja Mexico for the CDN dollar?
I usually obtain my pesos at the bank machine for the best rate, but I was wondering what the posted rates are in various areas of Baja.
The Canadian dollar is continuing to make gains against the US dollar, and this is a good thing for all Canadians buying pesos this winter. Maybe
we'll reach non-pinchy gringo status.
I noticed that each Canadian dollar can now buy 9.49 pesos. It's probably 9 pesos to the CDN dollar, but that's better than a kick in the butt with a
frozen mucluc.

rate is 9.44 in Santa Rosalia today But they wont exchange the Canadian.

Bruce. Any reason given why they won't exchange the Canadian dollar? Too much fluctuation or risk of rate dropping in the CDN dollar rate? Curious?

No reason, I have been fighting with then for years about this I run a money exchange hear in Mulege and a lot of my customers are Canadians. they
change in Loreto But not here.

The Canadian dollar was worth 11 cents more than the US dollar back in the 70's. It's time we went back to that for a while so we Canucks can do some
catching up.
I remember my father and mother going across the border to the White Elephant store and the many stores in Spokane Washington to buy groceries,
clothes, sports equipment and camping gear. So long ago.
If the Canadian loonie (as we call our dollar) keeps climbing, it'll be worth more than US buck by spring. I cross my fingers.

we had a nickel premium for the CAD, maybe more as you remember Randy, but then it hadn't yet taken on the "Loonie" designation - that came in the mid
80's with the odd looking goldish appearing dollar coin with the loon swimming contentedly thereon, they would get heavy in your pants pocket but left
your wallet flatter.
Travelling south of the (northern) border, though, with only CAD's could cause you a lot of problems in those days before widespread card use and you
had to carry Greenbacks to cover your a**. The premium was inconsequential. I grew up in a small B.C. tourist town where American money was passed
around almost as much as Canadian, people loved it. Total opposite 100 miles down the road.

Oh yes. The wonders of bank machines. I remember having to carry a wad of travelers checks or cash. ATMs are such a blessing.
Online early today. Just checking for air only flights only (one way) from Vancouver to Cabo. Might try flying from Spokane to San Diego then bus it
down the peninsula. Cheapest flight I can find so far is $418 + tax etc. from Vancouver to Cabo. Probably not going to find anything cheaper.
Pleased to see our Loonie making gains.

sat the quaint village of Harrison Hot Springs beside the cold, deep, 42 miles long Harrison Lake. Nice place to grow up in then, maybe even now, but
things are getting developed fast and the air quality has gone for a crap. Blue smoke everywhere, blows in from the western Fraser Valley and points
south. Never had that "way back when" unless there were forest fires or slash fires burning nearby. Ah, but all the memories have crisp, clear air as
backdrops!
Hope you get a decent deal into Baja, thought about Amtrack going south? Just a thought, I've always wondered how that would go, might seem a bit
long, could be expensive too. Then jump on the bus going south from Tijauna, that leg would be reasonable, yeah the plane does sound good. That
airfare price seems pretty good. On the other hand, if you have the time... We've got another seven weeks here. The rains come and go, but the temps

Randy, why are you looking at one way tickets? (it is always more expencive to do that.)
As to the suggestion of Amtrak. I took it from Tacoma to Oceanside a few years ago,(on my way to Baja) it is a 36hr. trip it is a beautiful trip,
but the extra time??? Also, by the time you pay your rail fare and buy your meals (not cheap, but really good) you are up there in price again. I

I didn't realize that WestJet flew to LA. I'll check the WJ site out and book it in advance to get the best deal. I'm sure there are many cheap
flights all the time from LA to Cabo, otherwise I'll take the Grey Dog (bus) down to San Diego and then hop a bus down the peninsula. I'm hoping I can
get round trip, where I can stay for 3 or 4 months then return to Vancouver some time around spring thaw in late March or early April.

That $149 sounds like a really good deal, I'd jump on it.
Also (I should have mentioned this in my first post) There once were Charters that went from Vancover to Los Cabos that had really good fares and you
could use them "OW" I haven't worked for about 4yrs. now (20yrs. as a Travel Agent) so I'm out of the loop on what is happening.
The problem that you will run into with normal airlines is the time you want to stay (more than 30 days) but, the good news is that many times 2 RT
fares are cheaper that 2 OW fares you book them "creativly" any TA worth their salt will know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, the $149 YVR/LAX is a good deal, but, do yourself a favor and make a call to your local TA and ask about Charters. getting on the plane at
Vancover and off in Los Cabos will save you from haveing to take a 24hr. nap before you sip on that first Maggie.
, then any hot deal
to Cabo.
