Mango pie?

chuckie - 8-21-2013 at 04:58 PM

My mangos are winding down, and I have done everything I can think of with them...BUT? Why cant I bake a mango pie? Wouldnt it be just like a peach pie but with mangos? I'll letya know how it turns out...

Make a liquado . . . mango with milk, ice, sugar or equal, at least and anything else you have in the cooler . . . excellent! I add protein powder, vanilla flavored . . .

Done that

Mango Pie :tumble::bounce::spingrin:

Don't overcook. Mangos are more delicate than peaches.

...and don't forget to remove the pits.:P

Wow!

mango madness

Today I diced up about 15 huge mangos.
I made mango sorbet
I made little bags of mangos to freeze for smoothies later
I have, in the past, made mango turnovers. I stew the mangos down with some spices...cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves...kinda apple pie spices.

I make a mango bread...kind of like banana bread.
Also make a "pastel fria" with....Maria cookies for the crust, vanilla pudding with cool whip mixed for the next layer ...and then sliced mangoes all over the top.

I'm liking your ideas Judy...
I'm thinking that mango season was something we really missed by not taking our usual Cabo trip this summer!

Haven't made anything but liquados so nothing to offer . . . but these sound really good right now!

We have a Cabela's food dehydrator that we make mango chips with. They turn out great and keep forever in the freezer. I put them in sandwich size bags, just the right amount for a snack.

Today is pie day....made the crust my self....filling Mango Puree, Instant Vanilla pudding, cream cheese..kinda made it based on what is available here....Good thing about Baja ....Mucho Tiempo.....if it doesnt work the first time, try something else...

Make mango jam (just at sugar and boil it) and use it on toast and as a topping on vanilla ice cream. But, you have to add lime juice to it to bring up the tartness.

Adding frozen mango to Margaritas works great and makes a nice looking drink.

Anybody ever try to make mango pie with the exact same recipe as for a peach pie? I think the problem is that the mango meat would liquefy and you would get a loosely viscous runny pie. Maybe using slightly unripe mango meat would work???

Did the jam...did the margaritas...The vanilla pudding and cream cheese bind it tigether...bake the crust..then fill the pie

sounds great, Chuckie!

OOPS
I forgot
For the turnovers, I shake a little corn starch through a sieve into the mangos, stirring constantly, to thicken up the natural juices. Since my mangos are super fresh, I have never had to use sugar in any of my recipes. If you have a tree, try them without sugar.

chuckie - 8-23-2013 at 03:22 PM
