IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. -- An Imperial Beach lifeguard crossed into Mexican waters to rescue a Mexican lifeguard who became caught in heavy surf while
trying to save a drowning swimmer.
Lifeguard Jason Lindquist rode a personal watercraft to the rescue site about one mile south of the U.S.-Mexico border Sunday after Mexican fire
officials reported they were having trouble making the rescue, Imperial Beach lifeguard Oscar Alvarez said.
Lindquist picked up the Mexican lifeguard by using a rescue sled. Together, the two men recovered the body of a teenager who drowned in the rough
waters off Playas de Tijuana.
