Gary Patton - Updated Jan. 5, 2015

 Pages:  1    3  ..  24

BajaBlanca - 9-10-2013 at 07:06 PM

The search is on for Gary Patton who was last seen at Jardines Hotel (San Quintin) onSept.3rd and 4th, 2013 and indicated to staff there that he might be returning that Sunday.

He has not been seen since altho there have been possible sightings in CampoRene and Punta Abreojos (fishing tournament).

Flyers have been posted between the border and La Bocana, CABOMAGIC kindly posted the pic right away.
There has been a missing person report filed in the USA
The American consulate has been notified.
The Mexican navy has been notified since Gary had a red surfboard and wanted to surf (he is not an avid surfer).

Flyers are at gas stations, checkpoints and in stores. Please print some up if you can post somewhere.

Gary is tall, quite thin and a talker. He recently started drinking a little, which does not work well with his meds, this may be affecting his ability to rationalize - THIS IS CONJECTURE as we do not know if he is still drinking. He is not an avid fisherman either...he just loves Baja, the people, the views.....He does not use plastic, he has enough cash to last him awhile.

------------------------------------------------------------
MY ORIGINAL POST:

His brother contacted me and they are very concerned! If he is at your hotel or if you see him please tell him to contact his brother. They plan on heading to San Quintin tomorrow to ask around...that was his last known location.

Thanks.....

BajaBlanca - 9-10-2013 at 09:00 PM

Actually, in rereading their email to me, Gary was headed south without a set destination ....he could be anywhere BUT he told them he would be home on the 8th. And he isn't.

dtbushpilot - 9-11-2013 at 04:31 AM

Any other info Blanca? Physical description, vehicle type etc?

shari - 9-11-2013 at 07:04 AM

what was his known destination? Is he a surfer, fisherman, traveling alone etc?

BajaBlanca - 9-11-2013 at 07:41 AM

I wrote to the family and called left a msg for more info
Haven't heard back yet.

DavidE - 9-11-2013 at 10:43 AM

A name is a damned difficult thing to determine. A person could spot 800 gringo males and what the hell does a "Gary Patton" look like? I don't remember or count how many "Be On The Lookout For" requests I see on Mexico forums and a small minority of them have even the faintest description appendages. Is it laziness? I don't know.

BajaBlanca - 9-12-2013 at 08:37 AM

That is Gary on the right.

Gary on the right

BajaBlanca - 9-12-2013 at 08:42 AM

And that is his car!

BajaBlanca - 9-12-2013 at 08:48 AM

My name is Jenn Patton, I am Dave and Molly's daughter. I am sending you a couple pictures of my Uncle Gary (Patton) and his vehicle that he is driving. He hasn't been heard from since last Wednesday when he arrived at Jardines Hotel in San Quintin.. He is driving a 2002 Toyota 4 Runner, Silver with a heavy duty roof rack.. He mentioned to my dad that he wanted to go see the whale sharks in Bahia de los Angeles.

shari - 9-12-2013 at 10:47 AM

I will send the pics to our cousin Ricardo who takes people to see whale sharks in BOLA...thank you Blanca for helping out

shari - 9-12-2013 at 11:11 AM

what kind of truck is it and is it grey or beige?

tripledigitken - 9-12-2013 at 11:31 AM

Is it known he checked out of Jardines?

Ken

DENNIS - 9-12-2013 at 11:38 AM

It's pretty easy to get caught up in the fun of it all down here. We've seen it before.
Hope he's OK.

BajaBlanca - 9-12-2013 at 05:16 PM

The family has promised to email immediately if any info surfaces. No news so far.

BajaBlanca - 9-12-2013 at 05:21 PM

This was sent last night, but I was in the hospital with Les and didnt get it til today:

I received a call from my dad tonight and he made it to Jardines and looked around at the Fishing places to see if he went out and they haven't seen him. He also checked with the Old Mill, he hasnt been there. Tomorrow they will go down to Punta Baja..

shari - 9-12-2013 at 06:27 PM

Blanca do you know if he was traveling alone and if he is a baja guy who has his usual spots? I posted the info on facebook and on folks in BOLA's page too and several have shared it around.

LVPatton - 9-13-2013 at 07:42 AM

Shari, my dad is traveling alone and his brother, my uncle Dave knows his favorite spots.

[Edited on 9-13-2013 by LVPatton]

LVPatton - 9-13-2013 at 07:51 AM

Yes, he's a regular.

shari - 9-13-2013 at 07:55 AM

thanks..it's helpful when looking for someone to know where they might be so we can get family and friends living in baja to look for him too....so it would be good to know where he may be...baja is a very small world and the people here on Nomads have excellent contacts so more info would be appreciated if you want help finding your dad.

micah202 - 9-13-2013 at 07:55 AM

.

..does the fellow sometimes take a break for staying in touch?

..or is this a first occasion?

...I hope all turns out well,,,and you have a laugh about it in the end..........after a good scolding session!!

BajaBlanca - 9-13-2013 at 08:30 AM

Ok, I think it might be time to check hospitals? G Negro, BoLA. I am happy to call if someone can get me numbers since we are in San Diego.

bajaguy - 9-13-2013 at 08:43 AM

Notify both the State Police (PEP) and the Federal Highway Police (there is an office on the south end of San Quintin). Leave them photos of Gary and the vehicle.

Also leave photos at military checkpoints, PEMEX stations and motels along Hwy 1.

Have Garys home bank check his ATM and credit card activity.

You may need to contact the local law enforcement agency where he lives and file a missing persons/vehicle report. This will get him into the national NCIC database

LVPatton - 9-13-2013 at 09:57 AM

I know they contacted the consulate and they said his name is not in the jails or hospitals. He is good about staying in contact. This is a first.

BajaLuna - 9-13-2013 at 10:53 AM

I agree with Blanca...and personally, I would check/call the hospitals instead of relying on the Consulate's word on that. Let's hope he's out and about having a good time and lost track of time, easy to do in Baja.

Keeping him and his family in our thoughts!

BajaBlanca - 9-13-2013 at 11:20 AM

So easy to call, I am happy to do it or Shari would be happy to do it as well, I am sure.

LVPatton - 9-13-2013 at 11:27 AM

That would be appreciated. Thanks to all for reading this thread.

shari - 9-13-2013 at 06:10 PM

I called the GN hospital...no gringos there. Was he last seen in SQ? does the hotel have record of him there?

LVPatton - 9-13-2013 at 06:24 PM

He arrived in SQ at Jardines on Wednesday and checked out Thursday letting them know he planned on returning sunday. Jardines confirmed. Jardines or someone got the notion he may go to BDLA to see whale sharks. Wouldn't surprise me but still should have been back sunday.

LVPatton - 9-13-2013 at 06:26 PM

This is deja vu from February 2009 when step dad passed.

BajaBlanca - 9-13-2013 at 06:41 PM

No gringoes in g negro. Thanks Sharo for calling.

Next option is to call santa rosalia. Maybe he just continued south.

shari - 9-14-2013 at 06:39 AM

If he planned to return north to SQ after only 3 days, it doesnt sound like he planned to go further south so the search should perhaps be focused on that area...has someone called the SQ hospital and police? Have you put this out on Talk Baja forum too?

LVPatton - 9-14-2013 at 07:42 AM

Yes they are going to talk to SQ police on their way home today. I have not posted this elsewhere.

BajaBlanca - 9-14-2013 at 07:44 AM

I asked Talk Baja to post the info yesterday and they did. I have asked Alonzo to call hospitals in Santa Rosalia and La Paz. Havent heard back yet.

LVPatton - 9-14-2013 at 08:01 AM

Thanks a bunch!

Nothing on the Talk Baja board as of this morning...........however there is a thread/link on the Talk Baja facebook page.

redmesa - 9-14-2013 at 05:45 PM

bump...just hate missing persons reports

shari - 9-14-2013 at 07:07 PM

a few years back a friend of ours flipped his car in Catavinia and the vehicle couldnt be seen from the road...when he didnt show up, his family knew he was somewhere between here & San Quintin and found him pinned under his car....so tragic. Let us hope that he is having fun somewhere in baja on a remote beach but certainly the police should be looking for him.

Yeah........the longer they linger here, the worse it seems.
We need a more efficient way to get the word out from north to south. Maybe flyers delivered by the ABC bus....then spread out from their stops , or something like that.

We've learned in the past that "boots on the ground" is the best coverage.

Hate to say it, but this one is making me nervous. It's been going on too long.

redmesa - 9-14-2013 at 07:59 PM

Sometimes the draw of the great space moves us to say enough of life...but the other options become more troubling as time goes by without money life gets limited even in baja.

redmesa - 9-14-2013 at 08:02 PM

Maybe he is home comfy and we have not heard.

LVPatton - 9-14-2013 at 08:10 PM

aunt checked his place, not home. federales, embassy and local police in bdla and sq all notified.

Did you notify the military checkpoints????

One thing.....if he is driving, he will need gas. Flyers at PEMEX stations would help.

How did he pay for his room in San Quintin, cash or credit card????

LVPatton - 9-14-2013 at 08:18 PM

cash is guess and he was confirmed there in wednesday the 4th out thursday the 5th. had debit but bank wont share info. detective in costa mesa has bank info

"Generally" if you are on the account, no problem. Majority of the time you can go on-line and check ATM or Credit Card info. Law enforcement can get it with either a subpoena or in this case a missing persons report

If Gary is dealing in cash, he may run out soon and start using his ATM/Credit card. When that happens, it's the first place to look

BajaBlanca - 9-15-2013 at 08:28 AM

We are headed south Tuesday and can post some posters at PEMEX

Please tell me what. You want written on it and send something I can print up to my email.

Anyone else going north or south? Perhaps you can do the same? We should really post them in restaurants or popular supermarkets in our own towns. Someone somewhere has to have seen him or the vehicle.

willyAirstream - 9-15-2013 at 09:04 AM

I can make a pdf flyer and make it available to download, then folks all over can download as needed, then post in the local pemex, ck points, etc.

I`ll need contact info and any info you would like on the b&w 8 x 11 flyer. I can make this tonight.

LVPatton - 9-15-2013 at 09:38 AM

Thanks and yes sounds awesome. Cousin Jenn will reach out with contact info.

LVPatton - 9-15-2013 at 09:45 AM

The proverbial needle in the haystack.

By the way, LV.....where are you? Just curious.

shari - 9-15-2013 at 10:26 AM

good new info means he may hit the central baja pacside which can be remote...there was a nice swell the last few days so hopefully he is surfing somewhere enjoying the coolness.

willardguy - 9-15-2013 at 10:40 AM

check the cantina's showing the afternoon raider game ;)

LVPatton - 9-15-2013 at 11:16 AM

I'm in Vegas, brother in Costa Mesa. Yes he's a huge raider fan. :-)

I don't think anyone's checking anything, except Blanca, who's not afraid to get her hands dirty.
Everyone else is just making suggestions.

chuckie - 9-15-2013 at 07:08 PM

I'm glad you said that....your right...

shari - 9-15-2013 at 07:12 PM

I think he was a client of Blanca's...I have spent quite a bit of energy getting the word out to family & friends in central baja. We had very little information to go on and I'm not sure how much more I or others can do from here.....Dennis & chuckie....what are you doing to help find him?

Is the family in Baja looking? If family is worried, they should get get out there and drive and ask Qs.

BajaBlanca - 9-15-2013 at 07:18 PM

the family is down there and driving around

shari has been fantastic, she called g negro

I had Alonzo call santa rosalia hospital as well as la paz hospitals and he says there is no one named Gary anywhere

I have the flyer and will be making copies tomorrow to hand out at military checkpoints and Pemex stations we stop at

I am still hoping that he is camping and surfing or even pretending to surf but we MUST all work together ... spread the word to the many folks who are not on nomad .... the car must be somewhere !!!

BajaBlanca - 9-15-2013 at 07:31 PM

I can't load the flyer to photobucket #$%^&*

waiting for David K, maybe he will have better luck than I.

and yes, those pics of Gary and his car are actually from in front of the B&B from their last vacation. Thank goodness the family remembered to email us and send them along so we could get this chain going.

heads up, everyone, there should be a backup person on all our bank accounts!

btw we have dear friend named Gary Patton .. who lives in Colorado and when I saw this I thought what is going on .. thinking good thoughts that Gary simply lost track of time/place/space and is ok fine ..

Marla Daily - 9-16-2013 at 06:28 AM

MISSING PERSON POSTER EDIT NEEDED:

In reading this thread, it looks like Gary Patton checked into Jardines on Wednesday, Sept. 4 and checked out on Thursday, Sept. 5. Thus he was last seen on Thursday, Sept. 5.

LVPatton - 9-16-2013 at 06:35 AM

Correct.

Also, for free, Microsoft One Note, offers an easy screen capure which can be saved to your photos and attached and opened in word.

I hope Gary is well.

BajaBlanca - 9-16-2013 at 04:47 PM

Latest news is that the family is thinking to hire a plane to fly down the coast.

I gave then the phone contact for the company that does the g negro to ensenada run.

If you have any other suggestions, feel free to post them

David K - 9-16-2013 at 05:08 PM

Thanks to Nomads for helping improve the flyer...

Marla Daily - 9-16-2013 at 05:15 PM

If a private pilot (or helicopter) can be found to do the flight, I highly recommend two spotters accompany the pilot — one to check 100 feet out from each side of the highway between San Quintin and BOLA. (Many years ago I too lost a friend who was driving alone and simply disappeared. Her car and body were found several months later off a curve up-side-down in an area not visible from the road.)

I would also post on Baja Bush Pilots and ask that those flying down be on the look-out for the car off the highway. And I would email Aeromedicos and Flying Sams and ask that they do they same.

And I would drive the road very slowly, getting out to check all blind hills and curves on foot. Not an easy or pleasant task, but doing something always is better than feeling hopeless in such emotional circumstances. We will be driving down to Loreto next week and we will be extra vigilant.

LVPatton - 9-16-2013 at 05:25 PM

Plane is awesome idea.

David K - 9-16-2013 at 05:36 PM

For some years now, only Baja Bush Pilot members have been able to post on Baja Bush Pilots message board... or even look at their forums... So, hopefully a BBP member pilot who is also a Nomad will step up?

LVPatton - 9-16-2013 at 06:00 PM

sent emails and links back to this page. Thanks Marla and all.

shari - 9-16-2013 at 06:44 PM

chartering a plane in Guerrero Negro would be your best bet to cover the territory you need and having 2 spotters is essential to make the most of the flight.

Possible sightings coming in from GN at pizza place and other eateries within last 2-3 days.

Marla Daily - 9-17-2013 at 06:21 AM

Check for sightings with all employees at the gas stations:
in town in Guerrero Negro; at the entrance to town north of the military installation (if it is open); and the last one north of Guerrero Negro before heading to Cataviña.
