So is Landon retiring... or hopefully going to revise it again... ?

ncampion - 12-6-2013 at 08:02 PM

Sure wish they would go back to the smaller format, it's so much easier to manage. I appreciate the larger pages, but would like to see an 8 x 10 format with more pages.

David........since you now have experience publishing and selling books, why don't you take on the almanac project???

8x11 1/2 size, color, and laminated pages and spiral bound........you would have a best seller!!!

And would finally be out in 2016. :tumble:

Great idea, bajaguy! It's a perfect project for David.

David K - 12-6-2013 at 11:59 PM

Yes, agree... I NEED a project (that pays more than posting on Nomad)!

How I would love to produce a new Almanac, at 8.5 x 11 inches or smaller?, but double the detail, so everything is easily readable... and correct the errors, including the wrong latitude numbers!

motoged - 12-7-2013 at 02:23 AM

David,
I would buy several....:saint:

DK, Google Earth is your friend when making a good map book - and so are the Nomads who have traveled many of the faint lines on GE. We will help!

OK OK... in the meantime, do shop with Baja Judy and buy up the last of the 2009 Almanacs!

Now, I need a sponsor so I can focus on this new project! :light::yes:

bajaguy - 12-7-2013 at 09:38 AM

Get your Baja contacts to set up a meeting with SECTURE (The State Tourism Board) chief Óscar Escobedo Carignan.

I'm sure you could also get sponsorships from businesses in Baja that would like to increase tourism.

All I know is that I bought the last one in Mulege at the gift shop about three weeks ago, on Ave General Martinez just east of Zaragosa. Through dumb luck I asked the store owner if they had one and she said "yes, last one."

Epilog ... the bottle of Kahlua in my suitcase shattered in-flight, soaking through the brand new Baja Almanac protective plastic cover and damaging the "southern" ends of all the pages. Mercifully, my clothing soaked up the brunt of the liter and a water rinse and sun drying managed to save the almanac (no gooey, sticky pages, no loss of printed ink).

Just ordered one up, don't have this large one so this will be a nice addition.

Thank you!

marek - 12-11-2013 at 12:05 PM

If I have the 2003 version(s), how different is this one (aside from being one book)?

Thanks

A bit... the book is 1/3 or more bigger the size and the maps are LESS detailed... but still the best available.

In the 2003 edition an inch was about 4 miles, and the 2009 edition an inch is about 7 miles.

The improvement, besides newer road data and mileages on some roads, is that the maps in 2009 overlap each other so that you can see a bit into the next page and not search for the same point because of the finite cut-off of the 2003 maps.

The 2009 edition does have several typos with the latitude numbers on the sides of the maps... all that was discussed and listed here on Nomad back in 2009. 'bajalou' found them first, I think!

Thanks Nomads for the great response!!
All orders that have been received as of today are on their way to you.
Happy travels!
