No Baja Until Spring ?

Diver - 12-1-2004 at 06:38 PM

As I sit here at my desk, avoiding the piles of work that I should be attacking, my bones tell me that it's time to head south. More than spring fever in my younger days, Baja beckons me to come...
I can feel the warm water around my beach chair, the sun on my face, the fish taco in my mouth and the pacifico chaser....the lime...... the........mmmmm.

This winter has us finishing building our first new house in...ever. We've agreed that when the house is done, we will move in, spend a week, and then leave for a quick month in the southern sun.

Until then, what to do about the Baja
Jones ?

What are your excuses for not being there already ?

David, I would pay good money for a
"WANT BAJA" sticker !!
(maybe a small one for my forhead ?)

We are dealing with temps in the teens right now....heading south in the morning for 3 weeks of warm water, sun, fish tacos and pacifico/modelo/dos equis! Here we come!

two choices:

1. drop everything and hit the road...

2. accept that you have a problem and you are powerless.........:tumble::lol::P

'Want Baja?' hmmmm... How about "I NEED BAJA!":light:

Diver - 12-1-2004 at 08:48 PM

or as I recall my then 3-year-old daughter screeming as I carried her out of K-Mart without the pink doll she wanted;

"I NEEEEEEEEED IT !!"

I thought about leaving now and waiting to finish the house until the spring but apparently something in the wording equates to Webster's definition of "divorce" (according to my beloved and all-knowing wife).

Okay, only use in case of Baja-withdrawal emergency

1. Get cerveza de Mexico of choice, preferably a 12 pack or so.
2. Drop back a couple of shots of your favorite tequila
3. Get out the photo albums/cds
4. Get silly thinking about the great adventures in Baja.

Everyone please, try to stay within the guidelines I've requested for image attachments, which is under 50k file size.

I Know the feeling !! I was down for three weeks, and had to come back to sit and watch golf with the inlaws on thanksgiving day. Sheesh Now Im just bumming. The jobs I bid before I left fell thru due to X-mas shopping and all. So here I sit thinking of some kind of gentle way of explaining WAY I have to go back. There is no DRUG for baja fever. I left my brother down in La Paz and he called last night to tell me he didnt know when he was heading back up. Must be kinda nice only to worrie about a couple gold fish instead of other people. Sorry if that sounds sellfish I guess it is. All in all had a interesting three weeks thou so it's all good :tumble: Mark

the only way that i can deal with comeing back is planning another one when i get home so theres allways one on the books.

BajaGrrls - 12-2-2004 at 09:08 AM

Wow, I couldn't agree more. I woke up this morning to find my car doors frozen shut and I'm wondering what the hell I'm doing here? I've got a long time before retirement, so I need to come up with a better plan. In the meantime, I'll follow Bajaboy's advice and drown my misery in a 12 pack of Tecate and shots of tequila. :(

Self-Medication...

Cameron - 12-2-2004 at 10:46 AM

When I'm stuck in the States, and missing Baja, here's what I do:

1. Pre-heat the oven to 300 degrees.
2. Pour the bucket of sand I brought back from my favorite Baja beach into a large tinfoil baking dish (Like you'd cook a Turkey in).
3. "Bake" the sand for 15 minutes, or until good & hot.
4. Load a surf movie into the DVD player.
5. Open a cold Pacifico and apply lime.
6. Remove the sand from the oven, and place it on the living room floor in front of the TV.
7. Settle into my easy chair, wiggle my feet into the nice hot sand, making little "fists" with my toes, and take a nice big gulp of Pacifico.
8. Press "play", and dream away.
(NOTE: For extra effect, grab a bar of surf wax and sniff occasionally!)

I'm heading down I-5 from Seattle to Baja in a week or so, this time for good. Anyone along the I-5 corridor want a slightly-used bucket of sand/adult pacifier from the Pacific side of BCS? Just let me know!

Hasta luego! Cameron

Have a safe trip Cameron-es,

I'm flying down to jump on Dive boat for 10 days over the holidays, going 200 mi South of Cabo to the Islas Revillagigedos

Diver - 12-2-2004 at 02:06 PM

Cameron,

I love your reply !!
It's the only thing besides looking ahead to the next trip that peaked my interest and made me smile.

I may have to go buy a bag of sand but I think I will try your suggestions soon. What do you think my wife will think when she comes home to find my feet in warm sand (maybe a halogen work light) and a beer in hand ?

Thanks, your posts are great.

hey cameron-
