BoLA to San Francisquito road conditions?

larryC - 9-27-2014 at 12:03 PM

I have heard from several people that the road south of Bahia has been graded since the last storm. Has anyone driven it all the way to 'squito or heard anything about how far they actually graded?
Thanks
Larry

Hi Larry...read your U2U

They said the road south from LA Bay was difficult. Several trucks got stuck in the mud, but they were able to get them out. Dern just got back and was told the road was only graded as far as Gecko.

Ps. Did you get the group email I sent out in reply to Bedman's inquiry?

It would be great to get a update on the road.

My friends that flew down just got back and reported the road south of town is graded as far as the turn off to Rincon, not much farther than the Gecko turn off. They didn't go further than that but I suspect it is going to be rough for awhile. Makes me curious about Animas and if the fishermen were in there and if they can get out by road.

I know of a small group of fisherman that were in Las Animas when Odile hit. They were able to leave the beach and make their way to La Bay before heading north. They reported huge waves hitting the sand spit just south of the fish camp and something about losing several meters of beach.

I have not heard any reports about anyone returning to Animas to assess the damage to their encampment or how bad the road is between the La Bay/SanFransiquito road junction and Animas Bay. Based on previous years' storms with considerably less volume of run-off, I would imagine that the road into Las Animas is going to be very tough.
